About The Position

As a Senior Lab Technician at BASF ECMS, you will perform routine, semi-routine, and moderately complex chemical and physical analyses on a variety of materials to support production activities in a fast-paced, aggressive, customer-service environment with variable demands and a steep learning curve. You will be responsible for higher-level tasks such as training other technicians, authoring work instructions, editing control charts, and supervising work permits in the lab. This role involves setting up and operating a variety of laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting chemical and physical laboratory tests for qualitative and quantitative material analyses, and maintaining necessary records with a high level of attention to detail. You will also assist with inventory control, troubleshoot analytical processes with guidance, and work in compliance with all EHS and ISO standards, adhering to good quality control practices. The position requires daily work with hazardous chemicals, strict adherence to safety regulations and PPE, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, including on-site customer requests, while working a 12-hour day or night shift schedule.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related discipline with 3 years lab experience OR a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related discipline.
  • Work with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and proper material handling procedures associated with chemical operations.
  • Strict adherence to PPE or other safety requirements.
  • Complete initial and ongoing on-the-job training as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, semi-routine, and/or moderately complex chemical and physical analyses on a variety of materials supporting production activities.
  • Train other technicians.
  • Author work instructions.
  • Edit control charts.
  • Supervise work permits in the lab.
  • Set up and operate a variety of simple to moderately complex laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to make qualitative and quantitative material analyses.
  • Maintain necessary records and accept responsibility for all test results.
  • Assist with inventory control of chemicals and apparatuses.
  • Troubleshoot analytical processes with guidance.
  • Work in compliance with all EHS standards and use knowledge of safety regulations and proper material handling procedures.
  • Work with hazardous chemicals daily, adhering to PPE and safety requirements.
  • Adhere to ISO standards and good quality control practices.
  • Complete initial and ongoing on-the-job training.
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects including on-site customer requests.
  • Work a 12-hour schedule, day or night shift.
