Senior Java Specialist
About The Position
This role involves full-stack development of complex business logic, including hands-on coding of core application components and conducting peer code reviews to ensure adherence to Java design patterns and performance standards. The position acts as the principal architect for middleware and identity systems, holding final authority over code promotion and infrastructure. Responsibilities include defining mandatory technical specifications, framework versions, and dataflow for enterprise-scale Java applications, as well as establishing standards for server provisioning, HAProxy load-balancing, and SSL/TLS security protocols. The role also encompasses architecting database connectivity, firewall protocols, and CI/CD pipelines using Docker, managing version control policies, performing JVM tuning, and authoring Technical Design Documents (TDDs).
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, Information Services, or a related field
- 1 year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
