About The Position

The Senior Java Developer will support the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on the SCOR BAU EI parallel initiative. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions within the SCOR Java application, including updates to business logic, user interface enhancements, reporting capabilities, and the system data model. The contractor will support application enhancements and defect corrections in maintenance mode across multiple environments, including coding, testing, peer reviews, documentation, and defect root cause analysis. The position requires adherence to code coverage, testing, and security policies and procedures, as well as availability for on-call support as needed.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) using the Java programming language.
  • 8 years of experience in applications development on the J2EE platform.
  • 8 years of experience writing SQL for relational databases.
  • 8 years of experience with RESTful web services on the Spring platform.
  • 8 years of experience working with Spring Aspect Oriented Programming, including transaction management and security.
  • 8 years of experience with JUnit and unit test development.
  • Candidates must already reside in Texas and be local to the Austin area (within a 50-mile radius). Out-of-state candidates or those planning to relocate will not be considered.
  • Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
  • The candidate may be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as requested and pre-approved by HHSC.
  • Overtime beyond 40 hours per week must be coordinated and pre-approved through HHSC.
  • All travel, per diem, parking, and living expenses are the responsibility of the candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, and analyzing systems flow, data usage, and work processes.
  • Implement updates to the SCOR Java application, including changes to business logic, user interface components, and the system data model.
  • Extend and enhance reporting capabilities within the SCOR application.
  • Support application enhancements and defect corrections in maintenance mode across multiple environments.
  • Conduct coding, unit testing, peer reviews, and documentation in accordance with project standards.
  • Perform defect root cause analysis and troubleshoot application issues as required.
  • Maintain code coverage, testing standards, and security policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful web services using the Spring platform, including Spring Aspect Oriented Programming for transaction management and security.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries for relational database interactions.
  • Provide on-call support as needed and perform other duties as required by unit operations.
