About The Position

Equities Technology at Citi is undergoing a significant transformation to build a premier global platform for execution, prime, clearing, and cross-product margining. The goal is to re-engineer the technology infrastructure to achieve top-tier performance and resilience, enabling advanced execution capabilities, global market connectivity, and modernized post-trade, clearing, and margin processes. The vision is to create an integrated, highly automated platform that delivers exceptional client results and fosters growth across Citi's global operations. This role involves close collaboration with skilled engineers and engaged business and product partners to shape and implement the next generation of Equities technology. We are seeking a highly capable professional to join the team as an Application Development Lead, Margin and Risk, Vice President, based in Jersey City, NJ, USA. Prior experience in Margin and/or Risk is a requirement. The Cross Asset Margin technology teams are responsible for developing and enhancing strategic systems and services that are regulatory-driven and critical to how Citi Capital Markets manages trading-related risks, including market and counterparty credit risks. This includes calculating margin requirements for OTC bilateral derivatives and optimizing these requirements for clients by considering offsets across various financial products using models such as VaR, SIMM, and Credit Stress. The team provides support to traders, salespeople, risk managers, financial controllers, and operations staff.

Requirements

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in an Apps Development role with hands-on coding.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership in designing complex and distributed systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Java, Spring, Kafka, Distributed Cache/Systems (e.g., Apache Ignite).
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases like Oracle.
  • Experience with building applications on cloud platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
  • Proven implementation of design patterns and enterprise-level architecture.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Any experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB is preferred.
  • Experience with Python is preferred.
  • Great exposure to microservices architecture.
  • API first design thinking and implementation using Rest, websocket, and gRPC.
  • UI tech stack knowledge will be an advantage.
  • Understanding of Risks (Greeks), risk calculation models like VaR/SIMM preferred and ability to work with Quant team is preferred.
  • Master's degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in the area and advanced knowledge of applications programming, ensuring application design aligns with the overall architecture blueprint.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow to develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of how business areas, such as architecture and infrastructure, integrate to achieve business goals.
  • Guide the team in establishing design standards to improve the efficiency of the development workflow and product rollout.
  • Take ownership of the planning and execution of smooth Production releases.
  • Oversee software quality and system modifications.
  • Serve as an advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary.
  • Analyze existing operations to identify risks and redundancies.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to develop solutions.
  • Liaise with team members and management to ensure projects are completed according to application development and governance standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments.
  • Resolve a variety of high-impact problems and projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards.
  • Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
