About The Position

Morningstar Investment Management LLC is seeking a Senior Investment Product Analyst to provide new product development and product rationalization recommendations, identify opportunities for new product development and research initiatives, and collaborate with product managers to equip sales and marketing teams. The role involves continuously reviewing and assessing current investment products for improvements, authoring product positioning statements, and providing recommendations for new market entry or product enhancements. The analyst will also provide timely insights and analysis to various stakeholders, drive promotion of investment strategies, respond to RFPs, and take ownership of key initiatives within the team. Responsibilities include leading projects, utilizing comprehensive research to deliver actionable insights, identifying product development opportunities, applying insights from performance attribution and market analysis, and leveraging in-depth knowledge of institutional and retail investment vehicles. The role also supports the development and implementation of data-driven product marketing initiatives, updates product offering records, supports cross-functional collaboration for client materials and product initiatives, and helps drive cross-functional product initiatives. Additionally, the analyst will support learning initiatives for sales training and identify and resolve discrepancies in product-related information. Remote work requests will be considered consistent with company policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Finance, or a related analytical field, or foreign equivalent and 3 years of relevant investment product analysis experience in Investment Management Product Analyst, Financial Product Specialist, or related position.
  • 2 years of experience in mutual fund, ETF, models, and Separately Managed Account (SMA) products at an asset management firm including investment product development/management experience.
  • Experience with research and analytics.
  • Experience using Morningstar Direct, FactSet, SalesForce, and Office 365 tools relevant to industry database.
  • Experience with investments, including asset allocation theories, investment vehicles such as mutual funds, ETFs and SMAs.
  • Experience with performance and performance attribution and MPT statistics related to multi-asset portfolios.
  • Experience with Turnkey Asset Management Platforms (TAMPs) and/or wealth management platforms.
  • Experience with competitive forces, distribution, manufacturers and landscape.
  • Experience with communicating business goals and functional requirements effectively to any audience within the enterprise.
  • Experience in developing investment product specifications based on market information.
  • Experience with technical and financial concepts.
  • Must possess unrestricted right to work in the U.S. in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide new product development and product rationalization recommendations to Product Managers leveraging industry knowledge and experience.
  • Identify opportunities and make strategic recommendations for new product development and research initiatives by utilizing knowledge of competitive landscape, investor profiles, and current product offerings.
  • Collaborate with product managers to equip sales and marketing teams with tailored materials and product positioning support to effectively communicate our value proposition to clients and prospects.
  • Continuously review and assess current investment products for improvements in product positioning, portfolio performance by leveraging research, competitor analysis.
  • Author product positioning statements and substantiate product recommendations and strategic decisions.
  • Provide recommendations for new market entry or product enhancements by leveraging research on current and prospective markets and distribution channels to identify product trends, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Provide timely insights and analysis to account management, sales, product development, marketing, and other stakeholders, enabling effective collaboration in managing, developing, and distributing investment strategies.
  • Work with product managers to drive promotion of investment strategies within client networks by partnering across portfolio specialists, sales, distribution, account management, marketing, and investment teams, and recommending targeted outreach approaches.
  • Respond to RFPs and recommend relevant product solutions, leveraging identified growth opportunities and collaboration with sales and solutions teams.
  • Take ownership of 3-4 key initiatives within the team, working autonomously and in collaboration with the product manager to drive measurable results and continuous improvement.
  • Lead projects in assigned areas, ensuring alignment with business objectives, timely execution, and ongoing process enhancements, while making recommendations for future initiatives.
  • Utilize comprehensive research gathered from public websites, industry databases, ADVs, and client contracts to deliver actionable insights that guide governance committees and board decision-making.
  • Identify product development opportunities and provide recommended enhancements to Product Managers using data and analysis gathered from competitor and industry intelligence.
  • Apply insights gained from performance attribution and market analysis to deliver strategic product positioning recommendations to team members that support business growth and reinforce the firm’s value proposition.
  • Leverage in-depth knowledge of institutional and retail investment vehicles to provide ongoing strategic input on competitive positioning and inform product development initiatives.
  • Help develop and implement data-driven product marketing initiatives that respond to industry trends, strengthen competitive positioning, and expand market presence.
  • Regularly update product offering records to ensure data integrity and alignment with market developments by leveraging industry knowledge and ongoing market research.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration to develop high-quality client materials and execute key product initiatives, including new product launches and sales campaigns, ensuring alignment with strategic business goals.
  • Help drive cross-functional product initiatives, including new product launches and sales campaigns, by applying project management expertise and identifying opportunities to optimize processes and improve execution.
  • Help develop and support learning initiatives for sales training to enhance team capabilities and drive performance.
