About The Position

We are recruiting for two Senior Investment and Debt Accountant positions within the Investment, Debt and Loan Accounting Group. This role offers a high level of technical complexity, handling specialized accounting for over $40 billion in investments, $100 billion in debt, and a $15 billion loan portfolio. The Senior Investment and Debt Accountant reports to the Manager of the Investment and Debt Accounting Group (IDAG) and is part of a team responsible for reporting on transactions affecting the Province's investment, debt, derivative, and loan portfolios. The role involves supporting the preparation, analysis, and review of financial statement information for these portfolios. The team values collaboration, sound judgment, and knowledge sharing, offering a strong breadth of experience in a professional and supportive environment.

Requirements

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • University degree in a related field plus 5 years progressively responsible related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • A related diploma plus 7 years directly related experience.
  • Strong previous experience in preparing working paper files and financial statement support.
  • Breadth of knowledge surrounding different types of investment and debt instruments, including derivatives.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, bring thoughtful analysis, and find practical ways to improve deliverables, especially during tight quarter-end and fiscal year-end timelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complex investment structures, debt instruments, derivatives, or loan portfolios.
  • Working knowledge of PSAB; IFRS and pension reporting are assets.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working in large financial systems; familiarity with 1GX or AIMCo reporting platforms is an advantage.
  • Experience preparing or supporting published financial statements and working paper files for audit.
  • Strong analytical judgment and the ability to work independently under tight reporting timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and peer-reviewing working papers, journal entries, and financial templates for quarter-end and year-end reporting.
  • Supporting the preparation of published financial statements for endowment funds and pension plans.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling investment, debt, loan, and derivative activity recorded in 1GX and external reporting systems.
  • Providing variance analysis, forecasting, and accounting support related to investment revenue, debt servicing costs, and loan revenue.
  • Coordinating with AIMCo, Treasury Operations, Financial Reporting, the Office of the Controller, and other ministries to confirm transactions and balances.
  • Providing accounting policy guidance and professional support on complex investment, debt, derivative, and loan matters.
  • Supporting audit requirements by preparing high-quality working paper files and responding to Office of the Auditor General questions.
  • Contributing to cross-training and knowledge sharing across the investment, debt, and loan portfolios.
