This role is designed for a seasoned allocator who can independently underwrite and evaluate investments across asset classes and serve as a trusted partner to the Deputy CIO and CIO in portfolio construction, asset allocation, and manager selection and reconciliation of cash reporting. Howard University Investment Office is responsible for the management of the Endowment/Investment Pool and the Retirement Trust totaling an aggregated AUM over $1.6 billion in accordance with Board of Trustee approved investment policy and asset allocation. The University has benefitted from tremendous leadership by the President and Senior Administration in attracting world-class students and faculty and positioning the University in the short and long-term. The growth in Endowment supports these efforts and the Retirement Trust funding ratio is the highest in its recent history. Senior Investment analyst will be supportive of the Chief Investment and Deputy Chief Investment Officer primarily accountable for ongoing performance analysis, documentation, and reporting activities of the Investment Office related to the selection, monitoring and oversight of the Endowment's external investment managers. NATURE AND SCOPE: The investment portfolio invests in diversified asset classes including domestic and international equities, domestic and global bonds, Inflation Hedging and Alternative strategies such as hedge funds, private equity and real assets. The Endowment and Retirement Funds uses external investment managers through commingled vehicles, separate accounts, trusts and limited partnerships. Manager selection, diligence and asset class assumptions accomplished with assistance of consultants and other partners.

  • Network with other endowments and foundations to learn of investment programs, strategies and systems which may be applicable to Howard University.
  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of endowment, foundation or investment experience; skills in both written and oral communication; knowledge of investment concepts in a broad range of asset classes.

Nice To Haves

  • The ideal candidate would possess deep knowledge of equity and fixed income strategies, CFA designation, MBA in Finance, and experience in private markets preferred would be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Independently source, underwrite, and evaluate investment opportunities across public and private asset classes.
  • Conduct full lifecycle due diligence including qualitative assessment, financial modeling, and risk analysis.
  • Prepare investment memoranda and recommendations for the Deputy CIO, CIO, and Investment Committee.
  • Contribute to strategic and tactical asset allocation decisions.
  • Analyze portfolio exposures, correlations, liquidity, and risk.
  • Support rebalancing and private investment pacing.
  • Lead ongoing monitoring of investment managers.
  • Evaluate performance attribution and organizational changes.
  • Participate in manager meetings and reviews.
  • Utilize Bloomberg, advanced Excel, and internal systems that interact with Custodian and Consultants.
  • Apply coding skills (Python, R, SQL) to enhance investment analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain models, dashboards, and reporting tools.
  • Perform periodic studies, such as benchmarking on different investment issues, and manage projects as assigned.
