Senior International Property Underwriter - Chicago / Houston / Dallas
About The Position
Our Commercial Property underwriting team is seeking a highly motivated Senior International Property Underwriter with recognized experience and visibility in the Chicago Commercial Property insurance market. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in underwriting both global and domestic large, enterprise-sized corporations. This role involves managing a portfolio of accounts, analyzing and underwriting exposures including Natural Catastrophe hazards, assessing technical insurability, preparing quotations, structuring programs, and offering proposals in accordance with guidelines. The underwriter will utilize Swiss Re tools and systems, maintain risk information, administer accounts, and establish/maintain a book of business through marketing and originating prospects. Additionally, the role includes coaching less experienced underwriters, leading projects, representing Swiss Re in meetings with clients and brokers, and building strong relationships within the industry. A key aspect of the role is the technical analysis of man-made and Nat Cat property exposures, policy terms, and pricing metrics, as well as structuring capacity deployment and negotiating key terms aligned with the underwriting strategy.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4-10 years' experience as an underwriter (of medium to large corporate accounts)
- Proficiency in the use of underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines
- Solid experience and understanding of Nat Cat and man-made risk management and loss prevention
- Negotiating skills and the ability to handle multiple deals in parallel
Nice To Haves
- Experience in the structuring and fronting of global programs preferred.
- Experience working with Captives a plus
- Knowledge of complex shared and layered program structures as well as 100% Single Carrier business
- Skills working across diverse occupancies including heavy manufacturing preferred
- In depth knowledge of insurance and commercial property underwriting in the central region
- Strong broker and client network in the local region
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of accounts including fronted global property programs
- Analyze and underwrite exposures including Natural Catastrophe hazards
- Assess technical insurability regarding exposures and coverages on new offer and renewal submissions
- Prepare quotations, structure programs, and offer proposals in accordance with guidelines
- Use Swiss Re tools and systems for the development of terms and conditions
- Enter and maintain risk information into the various information systems and administer the accounts
- Establish and maintain a book of business as well as marketing and originating prospects
- Coach less experienced underwriters when necessary
- Lead internal (technical/organizational) and/or external (market/client development) projects
- Represent Swiss Re in meetings with clients, brokers, and other Swiss Re Group entities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients and team members
- Technical analysis of manmade and Nat Cat property exposures as well as policy terms and pricing metrics
- Structuring capacity deployment and negotiating key terms that align with our underwriting strategy
