About The Position

TerraPower, LLC. is seeking a highly motivated Senior Integration Engineer for the Physical Design Oversight (PDO) team on TerraPower’s Natrium advanced nuclear reactor projects. In this role, you will support the PDO team in the development of requirements and strategies relevant to first of-a-kind nuclear facility design, perform oversight review of work products, and facilitate integration across TerraPower and its suppliers to ensure successful execution of physical design and construction. The successful candidate will coordinate with engineers working on structures, systems, components, and engineering analyses for integration of input and requirements for nuclear plant design and analysis. Candidates must have experience in one or more aspects of physical design and analysis, project coordination, and performing owner’s acceptance review. The PDO team has oversight for all aspects of design that relate to civil/structural, architectural, physical modeling, pipe routing and stress, plant layout, geotechnical works, and underground work. The team also owns several design discipline criteria for the project and serves as the subject matter expert for their implementation.

  • Ability to work independently and with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
  • Candidate must have strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate with internal and external engineering and design teams with minimal direction
  • Experience with new nuclear power plant design projects
  • Experience with risk-Informed performance based, and probabilistic methodologies
  • Experience in a broad range of design and integration topics throughout a product lifecycle, including conceptual design, final design, and construction
  • Experience with design for complex extreme and external hazard loading such as seismic, high winds, and aircraft impact
  • Experience with commercial codes and standards such as IBC, ACI 318, AISC 360 and ASCE 7
  • Experience with nuclear codes and standards such as ACI 349, ACI 359, AISC N690, ASCE 4, and ASCE 43

  • M.S. degree in Civil or Mechanical engineering or equivalent/higher preferred

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and implement design bases and design strategies in support of plant design and licensing activities, including risk-informed, performance-based strategies and methodologies for the design discipline criteria owned by the PDO team
  • Develop, maintain, review, and refine plant level and system level requirements and specification documents for integration with plant design activities
  • Interface with design disciplines to identify and develop design information and specify design and performance criteria
  • Verify that licensing and code requirements are clearly established and implemented in the design and in alignment with project design and licensing strategies
  • Perform and support oversight review of physical design work products for acceptance into project configuration control
  • Support technical integration on the Nuclear Island (NI) between TerraPower and its engineering partner, including vendor input (VI) handoffs, interface requirements, design input packages, model and design basis transfer, and resolution of open technical items and requests for information
