Manulife•Boston, MA
•CA$113,000 - CA$163,000•Hybrid

About The Position

The Senior Integration Architect shapes the strategy, standards, target-state architecture and governance required to enable secure, scalable, resilient and reusable integration across the US Segment. The role provides architecture leadership across APIs, services, events, messaging, streaming, batch and hybrid integration, helping teams connect systems and exchange data consistently while reducing duplication and technical debt. Working within the Domain Architecture team, the Senior Integration Architect will establish reusable architecture assets, govern critical design decisions, improve visibility of the integration estate and guide delivery teams toward interoperable, cloud-aligned integration solutions. The successful candidate will influence segment direction while remaining closely connected to practical delivery outcomes.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-grade integration solutions.
  • Familiarity with one or more enterprise integration platforms or services, such as MuleSoft, Azure Integration Services, Kafka or Azure Event Hubs, enterprise service bus platforms, Informatica IICS, Azure Data Factory, or comparable technologies.
  • Progressive experience in integration, solution, or domain architecture, with accountability for strategies, roadmaps, standards, reference architectures, and reusable patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience designing integration solutions across APIs and services, event-driven architecture, messaging, streaming, batch integration, middleware, and cloud integration services.
  • Strong knowledge of API architecture, management, and governance; REST and SOAP services; API contracts; asynchronous messaging and publish-subscribe patterns; microservices; and common interoperability standards.
  • Working knowledge of integration security patterns and standards, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SAML.
  • Ability to assess integration platforms and capabilities, identify gaps and technical debt, and translate findings into target-state architectures and sequenced roadmaps.
  • Experience reviewing solution designs, documenting architecture decisions, and guiding teams through standards, exceptions, and remediation actions.
  • Experience with cloud and hybrid integration architecture, including delivery considerations such as CI/CD, security, resilience, monitoring, logging, tracing, and observability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear architecture artifacts and explain complex decisions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, containers, Kubernetes, scripting, automation, and platform engineering practices.
  • Experience modernizing legacy integration environments and adopting API-first, event-driven, cloud-native, automation-enabled, and operationally resilient integration patterns.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: mainframe, COTS or SaaS integration; external partner or B2B connectivity; data integration; or AI-enabled integration patterns.
  • Experience working in a large, complex, highly regulated organization, preferably in financial services, insurance, banking, wealth management, retirement, or another regulated industry.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the Integration Domain strategy, principles, standards, guardrails, reference architectures and target-state patterns, aligned with business priorities and enterprise architecture direction.
  • Create and maintain multi-year integration roadmaps aligned with business strategy, modernization priorities, digital transformation objectives, technology investment plans, and architecture direction.
  • Partner with technology delivery, domain architecture, platform engineering, security, data, infrastructure, cloud, and business stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into executable integration capabilities.
  • Evaluate emerging integration technologies, platforms, AI-assisted engineering capabilities, and vendor solutions, and provide clear recommendations to senior technology leadership.
  • Promote API-first, event-driven, cloud-native, secure-by-design, automation-first, and operationally resilient integration approaches where appropriate.
  • Design and guide enterprise-grade integration solutions across APIs, event-driven architecture, real-time and batch integration, SaaS and vendor platforms, hybrid and multi-cloud patterns, legacy modernization, data integration, intelligent systems, and B2B or partner connectivity.
  • Create and maintain a taxonomy and catalogue of current-state and desired integration patterns, including synchronous APIs, asynchronous messaging, event-driven, streaming and batch patterns, with clear selection and usage guidance.
  • Create and maintain integration inventories, interface classifications, dependency maps and key interface attributes for Gold applications. Ensure relevant information is captured and maintained in LeanIX or other approved enterprise repositories.
  • Act as the architecture authority for integration concerns by guiding solution architects and delivery teams, reviewing solution designs, documenting Architecture Decision Records and assessing integration exceptions against established standards.
  • Own the architecture view of technology lifecycle and technical debt for integration platforms and technologies. Define remediation priorities and influence investment roadmaps.
  • Partner with business, application, data, security, cloud, infrastructure and solution architecture stakeholders to resolve cross-domain dependencies and drive consistent architecture decisions.
  • Perform architecture quality reviews, provide reusable guidance and mentoring, and communicate complex integration choices and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Benefits

  • health, dental, mental health, vision, short- and long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance coverage, adoption/surrogacy and wellness benefits, and employee/family assistance plans.
  • various retirement savings plans (including pension and a global share ownership plan with employer matching contributions) and financial education and counseling resources.
  • generous paid time off program in Canada includes holidays, vacation, personal, and sick days, and we offer the full range of statutory leaves of absence.
