About The Position

This role provides support to the Corporate Insurance Risk Manager by managing loss control activities, risk functions (RCSA, vendor risk management, procedure management, bill payments and wires) development of relationships with vendors, brokers and carriers; accounting and forecasting of insurance accounts, and insurance captive administration. The intent for this role is to prepare the appropriate applicant to train to become the Insurance Director in the future. Position will sit in-office 5 days a week at 214 N Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC. No remote option available.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Insurance, Business, Finance or equivalent science/academic field.
  • Minimum five years of risk management experience in insurance, financial services or related field.
  • Broad risk knowledge with an emphasis on insuring risk for a large financial institution.
  • Strong communication and PowerPoint presentation skills.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically, multi-task, and drive change.
  • Strong quantitative, governance, and analytic abilities.
  • Ability to provide effective challenge to senior management.

Nice To Haves

  • Five+ years of insurance risk management experience in financial services or related field.
  • Licensed insurance agent or underwriter certification
  • Availability to travel +/- 15 days a year.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in the development, documentation, and ongoing administration of the Company’s insurance risk management strategy, policies, and procedures to support enterprise‑wide strategic objectives.
  • Serve as the primary owner of insurance‑related governance processes, including the identification, analysis, and reporting of risk management data. Direct the implementation and maintenance of policies and controls related to insurance program administration, policy renewals, claims management, and wire transfer procedures, and monitor key performance indicators and benchmarks to assess program effectiveness.
  • Provide strategic oversight of insurance claims, recoveries, and refunds, including evaluation of loss trends, potential exposures, and insurer performance. Manage and analyze claims activity using carrier‑provided systems and reporting tools.
  • Lead and coordinate claims review and stewardship meetings, as appropriate, to communicate claim status, emerging risks, and financial exposures to Executive Leadership and other senior stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison with insurance brokers and vendors, directing quarterly strategy discussions and claims reviews to align insurance placements and claims outcomes with the Company’s risk appetite and financial objectives.
  • Partner closely with the Corporate Insurance Risk Manager, Executive Leadership, and external advisors to support enterprise risk decisions and insurance program strategy.
  • Direct the procurement, placement, and renewal of all insurance programs, including preparation of executive‑level analyses and presentations and participation in management, committee, and governance meetings.
  • Manage the insurance policy calendar and renewal workflow to ensure timely preparation and presentation of recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer, Executive Leadership, the Enterprise Risk Committee, the Board of Directors, and/or designated committees.
  • Provide insurance and risk management due diligence support for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, including identification of coverage gaps, risk transfer considerations, and post‑transaction integration requirements.
  • Review and interpret contractual insurance requirements and risk transfer provisions for vendors and prospective vendors, identify material risk gaps, and recommend mitigation strategies consistent with Company standards.
  • Collaborate with Accounting and Finance to ensure accurate reconciliation of insurance accounts, proper premium allocation and amortization, and timely processing of insurance‑related payments.
  • Represent the Company in the insurance marketplace by attending industry conferences and engaging with carriers and brokers to maintain strategic relationships and remain informed of market developments and emerging risk trends.
