Purpose: We are currently recruiting for a Senior Controls Engineer. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Senior Controls Engineer delivers control systems engineering services to Worley and clients. Supports execution of control engineering work across projects. Ensures delivery to scope, schedule, budget, and quality. Contributes to mentoring and team development.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience delivering controls and automation engineering work on industrial projects (e.g., energy, mining, chemicals, or infrastructure).
  • Working knowledge of engineering systems, workflows, and document management tools (e.g., SAP, KMS, or equivalent project systems).
  • Experience participating in process safety and operability studies (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA) and implementing outcomes into engineering design.
  • Understanding of project scope definition, workshare execution, and the practical impacts of TA/NTA execution models.
  • Strong working knowledge of Controls & Automation deliverables, including: Control system architecture and network design, P&IDs, Loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and instrument location drawings, PLC/DCS/HMI system design and configuration documentation, Motor control and interconnection schematics, Instrument installation details, Instrument datasheets and specifications, I/O lists, Bills of material, Cable, conduit, and tray schedules, Control narratives and philosophies, Cause & effect diagrams, Functional design specifications, Material requisitions, Construction and engineering work packages.
  • Working knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, and automation applications, including: PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems, Industrial communication protocols and networks, Process instrumentation and field devices, Control loop design and troubleshooting, Alarm management and system integration.
  • Accredited Engineering Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Chemical, Mechanical, Automation, or related discipline.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Solid experience in controls and automation engineering roles on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and interpret controls, automation, and instrumentation designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver control engineering services aligned with Worley, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead control systems engineering activities for assigned projects/scopes.
  • Support project planning and delivery.
  • Attend meetings.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Follow QA/checking procedures.
  • Define scope and manage changes per project processes.
  • Prepare/review requisitions.
  • Perform technical bid evaluations.
  • Review vendor documents and Pos.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (process, electrical, mechanical, piping, automation).
  • Resolve gaps between Worley and client standards.
  • Develop and review control engineering deliverables (e.g., control philosophies, logic, system architecture, I/O lists).
  • Provide guidance to junior/intermediate engineers and designers.
  • Communicate with internal teams, clients, stakeholders.
  • Identify risks/issues; propose solutions; escalate as needed.
