About The Position

Stepan Company is hiring a Sr. Instrumentation Engineer position at our Millsdale, IL site. The Senior Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of the site's instrumentation, analyzer, control valve, PLC, networking, and process control systems. This role provides technical leadership for plant instrumentation assets, supports maintenance and operations, drives reliability improvements, supports capital projects, and promotes compliance with company standards, process safety requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards. The role is intended to provide dedicated site-level ownership for instrumentation reliability, controls support, project technical review, and E&I execution support across operating units. The position balances hands-on troubleshooting with longer-term reliability improvement, standardization, and risk reduction. The position serves as the site subject matter expert for instrumentation and process measurement technologies while collaborating with Maintenance, Operations, Process Engineering, Projects, and E&I personnel to improve plant reliability and reduce operational risk.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of industrial instrumentation experience.
Experience supporting chemical, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, or other process industries preferred.
Demonstrated experience with control valves, process instrumentation, industrial networks and communication systems, PLC/DCS environments, capital projects, and reliability engineering.
Sound engineering judgment.
Strong troubleshooting discipline.
Clear technical communication.
Ownership of assigned actions.
Ability to influence without direct authority.
Ability to balance urgent plant support with long-term reliability improvement work.
