About The Position

The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) is seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Technician to support the installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems. This role focuses on commissioning and operational readiness, then transitions to supporting maintenance and continuous improvement of control systems once the facility is operational.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Instrumentation and Control Technician or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial instrumentation, controls, or commissioning environments
  • Experience in general repair and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to develop clear, practical procedures and work instructions
  • Effective communication skills to work as part of cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work in an organized, detail-oriented, and safety-focused manner
  • Must provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation and control systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, pH sensors, and PLC interfaces
  • Assist with PLC and HMI programming, updates, and integration
  • Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and handover activities, including loop checks, functional testing, system validation, and issue diagnosis and resolution
  • Verify instrumentation systems meet design specifications, safety requirements, and operational needs
  • Prepare, review, and maintain operating, maintenance, and commissioning procedures in accordance with established codes, standards, and internal requirements
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including calibration records, test reports, and as-built information and support the management of instrument databases, tag lists, and loop documentation
  • Provide technical input for commissioning reports, and operational readiness assessments to improve system reliability, maintainability, and operability
  • Participate in hazard assessments, job safety analyses, and permit-to-work processes
