About The Position

Under direction, reviews and issues commercial and residential soil erosion plans for permits. Performs administrative office work and communicates with the Plan Review and Construction department on projects regarding drain work. Conducts inspections and works with homeowners, builders, engineering firms, townships on the soil erosion permits, construction of open and closed storm drains, and any soil issues.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
  • Three (3) years of soil erosion work experience (office and inspection)
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and an operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
  • Soil Erosion Control Certificate
  • Storm Water Certificate
  • Confined Space Certificate
  • Knowledge of Construction materials and terminology
  • Knowledge of Macomb County Soil Erosion Ordinance
  • Knowledge of Part 91 of act 451
  • Knowledge of Applicable software applications
  • Knowledge of Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
  • Skill in Organization and time management
  • Skill in Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
  • Skill in Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature

Responsibilities

  • Inspects the construction of open and enclosed storm drains, sanitary sewers, and water mains for conformance to contract specifications and government codes.
  • Reviews and checks sites for approved materials, specified pipe sizes, connections, grades, fittings, and restoration.
  • Performs inspection on more complex construction projects.
  • Coordinates with engineering staff and provides reports on field conditions and construction issues.
  • Reviews inspection documents and prepares related analysis and reports.
  • Fully utilized Accela to review plans, issues permits, track finances, schedule inspections, and create inspection reports.
  • Provides training to inspection staff on construction matters and soil erosion control issues.
  • Maintains records, reports, and documentation related to construction inspections.
  • Conducts inspections related to County Soil Erosion Control Program, prepares reports, files paperwork, and conducts enforcement follow up with property owners.
  • Conducts inspections, collects samples, researches plans and carries out enforcement actions for illicit discharge elimination program.
  • Communicates with the public regarding questions related to the permitting process, site complaints, and information of specific projects.
  • Attends preconstruction meetings.
  • Performs related work as required.
