About The Position

EXP is currently searching for a Senior Inspector for our Alpharetta, GA office. This role involves providing oversight and coordination of inspection personnel, performing daily field inspections of roadway construction activities, and ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and standards. The Senior Inspector will also monitor contractor activities for safety and public impact, document daily construction activities, and evaluate control point inspections.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a university with a degree in civil engineering or from a four year college with a degree in civil engineering technology and three years of progressive transportation technician experience; graduation from a two year technical college with a degree in civil engineering technology and six years of progressive transportation technician experience; or graduation from high school and eight years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for State Highway Agency; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 3 (Earthwork, Bridges, Incidental Items).
  • GDOT WECS.
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
  • GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).
  • NECIT Level III Certification or ASCE Equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and coordination of inspection personnel assigned to the Project.
  • Perform daily field inspections of roadway construction activities, including earthwork, grading, base, paving, drainage, and erosion control, for general conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Inspect maintenance of traffic (MOT)/traffic control operations for compliance with approved traffic control plans, contract requirements, and applicable standards (e.g., MUTCD and GDOT standards).
  • Verify proper installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices such as signs, channelization devices, pavement markings, temporary barrier, and lighting.
  • Monitor contractor activities for safe work practices and impacts to the traveling public, including lane closures, detours, and work zone operations.
  • Document daily construction activities, quantities (as applicable), and traffic control compliance in project records and reporting systems.
  • Evaluate and sign off on Control Point Inspections (CPIs) and ensure NCRs are properly processed for Nonconforming Work per TP Section 3.6.
