About The Position

Selective is seeking an ITS Senior Infrastructure Engineer Specialist to partner with engineers across IT network infrastructure, supporting our business platforms and ensuring stable, efficient operations while continuously improving to meet the evolving needs of our business community. This role is focused on network engineering operations, including maintaining, optimizing, and enhancing performance and reliability of the network environment. The Engineer will provide technical expertise to help drive strategic initiatives and support Selective Insurance’s “Cloud First” direction. The Network Engineer is also responsible for documenting designs, operational procedures, and enhancements, and sharing knowledge with the broader team.

Requirements

  • College degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred.
  • 10 + years of relevant experience in a fast-paced, enterprise-level environment including expertise roles
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network layout and communication systems.
  • Experienced in Azure Cloud networking
  • Advanced level knowledge of many of the following technologies: Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches; Cisco routers; Cisco Meraki wireless LAN; Cisco ISE; F5 LTM, APM and iRules; Palo Alto firewalls, including Prisma Access; Cloud based technologies (Azure, AWS and GCP) is required, with a strong understanding of and experience with Azure; Palo Alto SD WAN; SolarWinds.
  • Network certifications required from leading network vendors: Cisco (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE); F5; Microsoft Azure.
  • Ability to work with vendors and research product offerings to determine appropriate solutions. Ability to review, evaluate and make recommendations on vendor SOW’s, BOM’s and proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate to all levels of IT, including producing status reports interface with stakeholders and report to IT expertise.
  • Drive alignment of network engineering initiatives with business objectives and measurable KPIs.
  • Share knowledge and provide guidance to peers to support team capability and skill development.
  • Champion Agile, DevOps, and modern delivery practices within network engineering projects.
  • Engage with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are operationally supportable, aligned to business needs, and meet production and service requirements.
  • Lead innovation efforts by identifying technical debt, proposing modernization strategies, and implementing automation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define operational success metrics and track performance against KPIs related to system stability, availability, and support effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational expertise in IT to support, maintain, and optimize highly integrated, secure, resilient, and consistently available network solutions, serving as the gate to production by enforcing production readiness standards and operational acceptance practices.
  • Ability to Implement and maintain standardized methodologies to deploy and maintain routing and switching, LAN/WAN, wireless network, load balancers, cloud infrastructure networking components, network monitoring tools, WAN acceleration, SD WAN and other relevant technologies
  • Ability to maintain enterprise network routing architectures using protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP).
  • Knowledge of SDN concepts and familiarity with Python, REST, model-driven programmability, containers and other modern aspects of network engineering
  • Strong background in data center networking technologies like Cisco IOS, NXOS, Cisco VPC, Spine-Leaf designs, OTV and VXLAN layer2 extensions, etc.
  • Perform as SME escalation in support of IT operational organization during complex highly impactful outages that can cross multiple functional domains, involving chronic recurring problems, vendor product bugs and other critical network functionality
  • Ensure all engineered solutions have sufficient design documentation available including HLD and LLD documents.
  • Ensure all solutions are operationally ready for production by incorporating operational requirements and providing complete documentation, training, and standard operating procedures to support daily operations, maintenance, upgrades, and escalation management.
  • Identify areas for enhanced efficiency through automation, suggested process improvements and streamlined workflow.
  • Work with Information Security to ensure that security policies are properly engineered into the delivered solutions and features.
