The Opportunity As a dedicated Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Mainframe, you will be responsible for creating, modifying, maintaining and supporting infrastructure and individual and integrated system components and solutions that enable IT Services. You will balance availability, security, efficiency and functional requirements to help provide an optimized production service. You will also identify and manage existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and ensure these risks are effectively identified and escalated to be measured, monitored and controlled. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, or Plano, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience
  • 6 years of infrastructure experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding to include an understanding of mainframe infrastructure and z/OS.
  • 4 years of experience in creating, modifying, and maintaining infrastructure and individual system components.
  • Advanced level of business acumen in the areas of business operations, risk management, industry practices and emerging trends.
  • Knowledge and proficient understanding of designing scalable IT system infrastructures, implementing system changes, or automating service delivery and maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud technologies and tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Assembler Programming skills, including development, maintenance, and debugging of system-level components.
  • Extensive experience with SMP/E software installation, maintenance, service management, and product lifecycle support.
  • Knowledge of RACF security administration, auditing, compliance controls, and access management.
  • Proven experience in Dump Analysis and Debugging, including IPCS and system diagnostic tools.
  • Advanced skills in Problem Determination, root cause analysis, performance tuning, and resolution of complex z/OS infrastructure issues.
  • Proficiency with IDCAMS, catalog management, VSAM administration, and storage-related utilities.
  • US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain the IBM z/OS operating system and supporting software products across development, test, disaster recovery, and production environments.
  • Plan, install, configure, and support z/OS upgrades, RSU maintenance, SMP/E software maintenance, and product deployments.
  • Ensure system availability, resilience, performance, and capacity management of the mainframe platform.
  • Perform scheduling, monitoring, and operational tooling to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Support core z/OS subsystems including JES2, USS, TSO/E, RACF, HCD/HCM, SMP/E, SDSF, and system utilities.
  • Implement security controls, vulnerability remediation, audit findings, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem management for infrastructure-related issues.
  • Maintain disaster recovery readiness and support recovery testing and business continuity initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain automation using Assembler, REXX, Python, JCL, Ansible and other platform tooling.
  • Partner with application, database, storage, network, security, and vendor teams to deliver infrastructure solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, procedures, and engineering runbooks.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and modernization opportunities to improve platform capabilities and reduce operational risk.
  • Independently design scalable IT system infrastructure, providing oversight and priority for system change - reserve execution for complex implementations, and automate service delivery and maintenance tasks; provide direction and priority for monitoring and tooling activities.
  • Independently resolve highly complex technology production issues and leads troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions that span across multiple systems.
  • Lead analysis of end-to-end system failures to identify opportunities across multiple systems.
  • Make recommendations to business leaders on best solutions.
  • Independently experiment with new patterns and technologies.
  • Help establish and improve engineering best practices, concepts, and patterns with peers and the business.
  • Understand the customer and proactively identify innovative solutions and ideas for the product/business.
  • Mentor engineers, coach engineers on design, development, and maintenance of systems.
  • Develop software defined infrastructure in code in CI/CD Pipelines.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
