AECOM is seeking a Senior Industrial Electrical Engineer to lead power system designs for large-scale manufacturing facilities within our Advanced Manufacturing practice. This role is responsible for the design and coordination of facility electrical infrastructure, including utility interconnections, medium-voltage distribution, process equipment power systems, and reliability planning. Working directly with clients, utilities, equipment vendors, and multidisciplinary teams, you will provide technical leadership from concept development through construction, commissioning, and energization. Our project portfolio includes semiconductor, battery, energy and nuclear fuel, defense, and aerospace sectors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, NFPA 110 and IEEE power system standards.
  • PE license, or EIT with ability to obtain PE within 24 months.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ETAP or SKM, and Revit and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Due to the nature of the role, United States Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years of experience, including 5+ years designing power systems for industrial or manufacturing facilities.
  • Semiconductor fab, battery gigafactory or data-center-scale power experience, including loads of 50 MW or more.
  • Substation design at 69 kV and above; microgrid, on-site generation or BESS integration.
  • Nuclear fuel-cycle or DOE facility experience, including Class 1E or safety-related electrical systems.
  • Background with an EPC, electric utility or manufacturing owner.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance (required for Federal and defense projects).

Responsibilities

  • Design medium- and low-voltage distribution (480 V to 35 kV), including substations, switchgear, unit substations, oil-filled/dry-type transformers, MCCs and busway for high-load manufacturing facilities.
  • Lead utility coordination and service planning with providers such as Duke Energy, Dominion Energy and Santee Cooper, including load letters and interconnection studies.
  • Perform and manage power system studies: load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash (IEEE 1584) and harmonics (IEEE 519) using ETAP or SKM.
  • Design power quality and reliability systems: UPS, voltage-sag ride-through (SEMI F47), standby generation, parallelling generators, BESS and redundant (N+1, 2N) architectures.
  • Design process and tool power, DC and formation power for battery lines, VFD and motor systems, and power for automation and robotics.
  • Define hazardous area classification (NEC Articles 500/505, NFPA 497) for hydrogen, solvent and electrolyte areas; design grounding and lightning protection (IEEE 80, IEEE 142, NFPA 780).
  • Experience with the design of lighting and lighting control systems for commercial, government and industrial facilities in accordance with energy code requirements (ASHRAE 90.1 or IECC).
  • Grounding analysis and design.
  • Prepare technical specification sections. Support construction: submittals, RFIs, factory witness testing, NETA acceptance testing, commissioning and energization.
  • Serve as client-facing technical lead in workshops and pursuits; mentor electrical engineers and coordinate with mechanical, process and controls disciplines.
