About The Position

The UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking a full-time Senior Imaging Technologist to operate digital angiography imaging equipment, physiologic recorder and analysis equipment. This role involves performing scrub/circulating duties during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, facilitating handoff reporting, and providing effective and efficient communication with patients, families, and other customers of the lab. The position operates under limited supervision. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6 months of imaging tech experience required (Cath or EP setting preferred).
  • Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team is required.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to respond to on-call within 20-30 minutes is required.
  • Certification in American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and another radiologic related technological certification up to and including: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI), or ARRT Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI).
  • Iowa Permit to Practice by the State of Iowa for all technologists operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment required.
  • Current certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year imaging tech experience (Cath or EP setting preferred) desired.
  • Previous experience using electronic medical records desired.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations desired.
  • Membership in position-related professional societies desired.

Responsibilities

  • Operates angiography imaging equipment.
  • Operates various analysis equipment, including cardiac output computers, oxygen consumption monitors, oximeters, and hemochron machines.
  • Operates pressure injection systems for contrast material delivery as ordered by the cardiologist.
  • Prepares and operates the Intra-aortic Balloon Pump under the supervision and order of the cardiologist.
  • Maintains the operating condition of all radiologic equipment through quality control checks.
  • Performs general maintenance, cleaning, and simple troubleshooting of all radiologic equipment, and initiates repair when needed.
  • Performs sterile table set-up and post-procedure clean-up.
  • Performs circulating duties, including patient care, basic and advanced cardiovascular life support, vital sign monitoring, preparation of the procedure site, and accurate leveling of pressure transducers.
  • Provides instruction and orientation to trainees, students, and other hospital personnel on equipment operation, safety precautions, and procedures.
  • Assists the clinical supervisor with inventory and ordering of supplies.
  • Shares on-call responsibilities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments in radiologic technology and related subjects by attending meetings, continuing education programs, participating in professional organizations, and/or reading journals and publications.
  • Follows general policies and procedures in accordance with regulations of the University of Iowa Health Care, the Department of Internal Medicine, and UI Heart and Vascular Center.
  • Demonstrates acceptance of responsibility, pride in work performed, and flexibility in acceptance of assignments while consistently maintaining professional behavior and appearance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
