About The Position

The Senior Human Resources Manager provides strategic, full-cycle human resources leadership to corporate and property associates across multiple states. This role partners with senior leaders on complex employee relations matters, leads investigations, ensures multi-state compliance, and maintains working knowledge of employee benefits to support HR initiatives aligned with business objectives and organizational effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Five or more years of experience in human resources is required
  • Minimum of two years in human resources in the state of California
  • Five or more years of experience in managing, expanding, and developing relationships with clients at a senior level is required
  • Comfortable with a high-volume workload and solution-focused
  • Strong understanding of human resource industry trends, issues, and emerging technology
  • Track record of accomplishments and high-impact results
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge of MS Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (including Excel functions)
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to create a climate in which associates want to do their best by leading and communicating a shared vision with associates and providing coaching and development
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Required to complete and successfully pass the Avenue5 Fair Housing and Preventing Discrimination and Harassment training and other courses if assigned
  • Required to maintain a regular schedule which may also require working outside of regular schedule, weekends, and non-traditional holidays
  • Ability to travel (including overnight) up to 5%
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to observe and detect signs of emergency through visual and/or auditory cues
  • Must be able to remain stationary, move around, reach, and position oneself as needed for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate and express or exchange ideas with others, as well as those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, including the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound
  • Visual requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision
  • Ability to compare, copy, coordinate, synthesize, negotiate, communicate, and instruct
  • Ability to tolerate stressful situations
  • Ability to work under minimal to moderate supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of experience in multi-family property management is preferred
  • Certification in human resources (HRCI or SHRM) is preferred
  • Three to five years of direct management experience is preferred
  • Participation in industry groups is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Translate business objectives into strategic HR recommendations that strengthen policies, practices, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Provide senior-level leadership on complex associate relations and investigations, partnering with executive leadership and outside counsel to assess risk and ensure consistent, compliant outcomes.
  • Proactively evaluate associate relations trends to identify risk and recommend preventative solutions.
  • Oversee unemployment claims and representation in hearings or legal proceedings, as applicable.
  • Advise leaders on associate engagement, performance management, talent development, and employee welfare, including working knowledge of benefits programs.
  • Build strong partnerships with leadership to drive collaboration, efficiencies, and best practices.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws impacting the Avenue5 workforce.
