The City of Kent is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Senior HRIS Analyst to support and enhance our Workday Human Capital Management system. In this role, you’ll serve as a trusted technical expert and strategic partner—configuring system functionality, improving business processes, and delivering high-quality analytical insights that help drive informed decision-making across the organization. As a member of our HRIS team, you’ll work independently on complex system initiatives, collaborate closely with stakeholders across departments, and provide advanced consultation on HR technology capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, human resources management, information systems, or a closely related field, along with five (5) years of progressively responsible experience supporting Human Resources Information Systems, including configuration and administration of enterprise HR platforms such as Workday. A candidate who possesses most but not all of the qualifications above may be brought in at the level of an HRIS Analyst rather than a Senior HRIS Analyst. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, human resources management, information systems, or a closely related field
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience supporting Human Resources Information Systems, including configuration and administration of enterprise HR platforms such as Workday.
  • Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) system architecture, configuration, and modules (Compensation, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, Learning, Recruiting, Reporting)
  • Human Resources policies, procedures, and operational practices
  • Data analysis techniques, workforce analytics, and HR reporting methods
  • System integration processes and enterprise data exchange
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws related to human resources and employee data privacy
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
  • Research, investigation, and analytical methods and practices
  • Correct usage of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary as it pertains to the job
  • Configuring, maintaining, and enhancing complex HRIS systems
  • Translating business requirements into technical system solutions
  • Designing reports, dashboards, and data visualization tools to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Troubleshooting technical system issues and implementing practical solutions
  • Communicating technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, and enhance HRIS modules, including Human Capital Management, Compensation, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, Learning, Recruiting, Business Processes, and Reporting.
  • Translate business requirements into system configuration and technical solutions to improve efficiency, data integrity, and user experience; analyze existing HR business processes and recommend system improvements, automation opportunities, and process enhancements.
  • Develop system prototypes; perform system configuration testing; and support testing for releases, upgrades, and vendor-delivered enhancements, including development and execution of test scripts and coordination of user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Evaluate proposed system enhancements and assess enterprise-wide impacts; support implementation of new HR technology functionality and system improvements.
  • Troubleshoot system issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective solutions.
  • Monitor HRIS system performance, workflows, and integrations; identify issues, troubleshoot root causes, and implement or escalate corrective actions to ensure system reliability and data accuracy.
  • Perform ongoing HRIS system maintenance, including user access management, transaction monitoring, and routine system health checks; ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with established standards.
  • Provide technical support and functional expertise for HRIS applications and HR technology platforms; serve as the primary point of contact for assigned HRIS functional areas; manage and resolve day-to-day support requests from Human Resources staff, managers, and employees, ensuring timely issue resolution and alignment with service expectations.
  • Perform system audits and data validation; process mass data uploads and system updates utilizing established HRIS processes and tools to maintain system accuracy and data integrity.
  • Design and develop complex reports, dashboards, and workforce analytics using system-delivered reporting tools and data visualization tools; analyze workforce data to identify trends and support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop reporting solutions and self-service dashboards that support organizational needs.
  • Coordinate with the Information Technology department to support internal and external system integrations; monitor integration functionality to ensure reliable data exchange between HR systems and other enterprise applications.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Payroll subject matter experts and departmental representatives to identify system requirements and implement technical solutions; provide consultative guidance to leadership and staff regarding HRIS capabilities and system improvements.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, process guides, and job aids; provide training and knowledge transfer to Human Resources staff, managers, and employees regarding system functionality and self-service capabilities; support organizational adoption of HR technology enhancements and system changes.
  • Participate in vendor user groups and professional networks to remain informed of HRIS trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Actively support and follow the vision, mission, values, and goals of the department and the City.
  • May act as the Workday Operations Lead in their absence as assigned.
  • Chair/conduct/attend committee meetings as needed.
  • Serve as member of various City committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
