About The Position

Friends of the Earth is a progressive environmental organization focused on protecting the planet and its people through a combination of environmental protection, economic policy, and social justice. The Human Resources Department, part of the Administration Division, supports the organization and its employees in areas such as talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance and professional development, employee engagement, and HR systems and operations. The Senior HR Generalist (People & Culture) plays a key role in managing programs related to talent acquisition, employee experience, performance management, learning and development, and HR operations. This position partners with managers and employees to implement equitable HR practices, supports employees throughout their lifecycle, leads assigned HR programs, and manages the organization's fellowship program. The role also contributes to HR systems and operations that foster a positive and inclusive employee experience.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including experience across talent acquisition, employee lifecycle programs, performance management, learning and development, HR operations, or related HR functions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing HR programs or processes from planning through implementation and evaluating opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience advising and supporting managers and employees in the application of established HR policies, programs, and practices.
  • Strong judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive information and situations appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple areas of responsibility, establish priorities, and deliver accurate and timely work.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working with HR information systems and maintaining accurate and confidential employee data and records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using modern HR technology, including BambooHR or a comparable HRIS platform.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or comparable human resources certification.
  • Experience supporting learning and development, fellowship, internship, or other structured employee development programs.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, advocacy, mission-driven, or similarly complex organization.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment processes to attract diverse, mission-aligned, and qualified candidates.
  • Partner with hiring managers to develop job descriptions, recruitment plans, and equitable selection processes.
  • Advise and support hiring managers throughout the recruitment and selection process.
  • Manage the candidate experience from recruitment through offer and transition to onboarding.
  • Lead implementation of consistent, values-aligned onboarding and offboarding practices.
  • Coordinate across managers and departments to ensure effective employee transitions.
  • Manage employee lifecycle processes and data associated with new hires, promotions, transfers, status changes, and departures.
  • Identify trends and opportunities to strengthen employee experience, engagement, recognition, retention, and organizational practices.
  • Manage implementation of the organization’s performance management cycle, including goal setting, feedback, assessments, and related processes.
  • Provide guidance, resources, and training to managers and employees on performance management practices.
  • Monitor implementation and participation in performance management, identify needs, and address challenges.
  • Review feedback and performance process data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Manage the organization’s fellowship program, ensuring effective implementation and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop and maintain an inclusive, growth-oriented fellowship experience.
  • Manage fellowship outreach, recruitment, selection, onboarding, and program implementation.
  • Partner with fellows, managers, and stakeholders to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Partner with managers and departments to identify learning and development needs.
  • Develop, coordinate, and support organization-wide learning and professional development initiatives.
  • Facilitate or coordinate learning opportunities and identify appropriate resources.
  • Evaluate participation, feedback, and program effectiveness for learning and development initiatives.
  • Manage assigned HR systems and operational processes.
  • Maintain employee information and HRIS data integrity.
  • Support effective administration and continuous improvement of BambooHR and related HR tools.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline HR processes, strengthen documentation, and improve resources.
  • Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of HR policies, programs, systems, and initiatives.
