About The Position

The Senior HR Generalist plays a critical role in supporting the workforce, fostering strong relationships between management and employees, and ensuring compliance with labor agreements and organizational policies. The individual in this role will be assigned responsibility for employee/union relations, staffing, employee communication, performance management, HRIS administration, and other people initiatives. This role is crucial for driving organizational capabilities, plant operational performance, better safety outcomes, improved levels of employee engagement, and increased employee retention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business, or related field from accredited College or University, or equivalent experience
  • Previous work experience in human resources role
  • Previous work experience in or supporting manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
  • General understanding of labor laws
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with managers, employees, and union representatives
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities
  • Technical proficiency with HRIS systems (preferably UKG) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Conduct work activities on site at the Gopher Resource Tampa facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related field from accredited College or University
  • 5+ years of previous work experience in human resources field
  • Previous experience with union contracts and collective bargaining processes
  • Previous work experience in employee relations and conducting investigations
  • Previous work experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification

Responsibilities

  • Act as a primary point of contact for employees and union representatives to address workplace concerns and resolve grievances in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support the interpretation and administration of union contracts, assist in collective bargaining negotiations, and ensure compliance with labor laws and agreements.
  • Support the full-cycle recruitment process, including job postings, interviews, and new hire orientation, ensuring alignment with company policies and workforce needs.
  • Partner with managers to facilitate performance reviews, investigations/disciplinary actions, and employee development plans.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws, ensuring compliance in all HR practices and policies, particularly within a unionized environment.
  • Identify training needs, organize employee development initiatives, and facilitate workshops or programs that align with organizational goals.
  • Assist with payroll and benefits administration, address employee inquiries, and ensure timely resolution of compensation-related matters.
  • Generate and analyze HR metrics and reports, providing data-driven recommendations to management.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to support workers’ compensation claims and return to work issues, including reasonable accommodation assessments; promote a safe and compliant work environment, ensuring adherence to workplace safety regulations.
