Senior HR Business Partner

Ambience HealthcareSan Francisco, CA
$125,280 - $182,700Hybrid

About The Position

Ambience Healthcare is building clinical AI that clinicians actually trust, and we are growing fast. The People function is small and high-leverage, and this is our first dedicated HR Business Partner seat, which means you will build it rather than inherit it. Reporting to the Head of People, you will be a true partner to the business: the everyday point person for our people managers, the owner of how we build manager capability, and the steward of how goals get set and run across the company. We are looking for a problem solver who builds simple, direct solutions, removes friction, and helps leaders make better calls. This is a senior individual contributor role.

Requirements

  • A partner first. You start from what the business is trying to achieve and shape the people work around it. You embed with leaders rather than operate as a support desk.
  • A problem solver. You see a problem and solve it. You build simple, direct solutions instead of heavy process, and you spot patterns early enough to keep small issues from becoming big ones.
  • A critical thinker who delivers through ambiguity. You structure messy problems and ship in phases rather than waiting for perfect clarity.
  • A trusted advisor on hard calls. You can sit in a difficult employee conversation and help a leader think clearly through the trade-offs, and you carry confidential and sensitive matters with sound judgment.
  • Able to influence without authority. You earn trust fast and move experienced, strong-willed leaders without relying on positional power.
  • A smart generalist and builder. You are fluent across business partnering, employee relations, performance, L&D, org design, and the fundamentals of compensation, with 6+ years of progressive HR experience including direct HRBP and manager-coaching work. You default to systems over heroics and build things that outlast you. This role has no direct reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Willing to work 3 days/week from the San Francisco office.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with people managers. Serve as the named point person for our people-leader population, running a high cadence through high-change moments: goal setting, reviews, review writing, engagement, and survey follow-up.
  • Build and deploy manager training. Own the annual training calendar, content, and deployment on top of our Manager Standards program, including first-time manager training and an AI curriculum rolled out across the org.
  • Steward goals and OKRs. Own individual key results, audit goal quality every cycle, and build the tooling to see goal health so that teams learn to self-run good goals rather than depend on chasing.
  • Navigate tough employee decisions. Coach leaders through routine employee relations and the trade-offs of hard calls, and partner on org design, leveling, and headcount for your coverage area in tight alignment with the Head of People.
  • Drive operational efficiency. Automate the recurring People operating rhythm using our existing tools and AI, from goal-health tracking to coverage cadence and survey follow-up.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
  • 401(k) with a company match of up to 3% of base salary
  • A remote-friendly culture (with a San Francisco HQ) and full equipment provisioning to ensure you can work effectively from wherever you’re based.
  • Parental leave to support your family needs
  • Annual company-wide off-sites, team off-sites and regular team lunches and all-hands gatherings, with travel, lodging and meals covered
  • Flexible time off with no annual cap, company-wide holidays and an annual holiday shutdown from December 24–January 1 designed to support real rest and long-term sustainability.
