About The Position

The Senior HIM Technician is a mid-level position responsible for advanced health information management processes within the Albany Med Health System (AMHS). This role focuses on complex indexing, deficiency and quality analysis of incoming clinical documentation (medical records) for AMHS' inpatient and outpatient facilities/services. This position supports the delivery of quality healthcare by ensuring patients information is complete, accurate and accessible in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 or more years of experience in Health Information Management (HIM) operations or related field, with a focus on EHR systems such as EPIC and OnBase required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality measures.
  • Proficient computer skills in Excel, Word and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to organize and establish day-to-day priorities.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to multitask while remaining professional, focused, composed and positive.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems related to record keeping and EMR systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Displays integrity, friendliness and compassion.
  • Must be able to establish an appropriate and effective rapport with patients, coworkers and medical staff.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective and appropriate written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to take and follow direction in a positive and appropriate manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate, bachelor's or master's degree in HIM or related field preferred.
  • RHIA, RHIT preferred.
