Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 9 years of applicable work experience, or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 5 years of applicable work experience, or Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in setting up and running real-time digital simulators to perform HIL simulations.
  • Expertise creating detailed models of battery energy storage systems, generators, power electronics converters, gas turbines, and electrical networks and components.
  • 3+ years working with RSCAD, PSCAD and other simulation tools.
  • Working knowledge of three phase power system operation and power flow.
  • Knowledge of inverter operation and control.
  • Experience with PLC programming (structured text, ladder logic).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Schweitzer RTAC devices
  • Experience using medium voltage equipment such as inverters and transformers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems and integrate physical devices (relays, controllers, meters)
  • Develop real-time simulation models for equipment including battery, generators, inverters, PV, transformers, and electric grid.
  • Perform simulation studies to investigate interactions between different generation resources and hardware components.
  • Design and implement control algorithms in IEC 61131 based languages (e.g. structured text, function blocks) for Power Plant Controller to control entire power plant in off-grid or grid connected operations.
  • Perform system commissioning, testing and validation.
  • Maintain excellent documentation capturing controller designs, project timelines and presentations for stakeholder communication.
  • Interface with program management, project management and project engineer to help deliver controls functionality and performance according to the project specifications.
  • Deliver quality products to market with understanding and respect for all phases of the product development process, especially requirements, specification development, and release control.
