About The Position

Michael Baker International is seeking a Senior Highway Project Manager to join their Harrisburg Highway Team. This role involves managing multidiscipline projects for PennDOT, municipal, and private clients, providing engineering design and oversight for transportation projects, and supporting Consultant Project Management efforts. The position also includes mentoring younger staff, sharing technical knowledge, and supervising the preparation of studies, reports, quantities, cost estimates, and construction drawings for various transportation improvement projects. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with interstates, limited access roadways, new alignments, widening projects, intersection and interchange improvements, and full access roadways and bridges. This is a highway design-focused role requiring demonstrated expertise in highway engineering, with significant growth potential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Management
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 15+ years of experience on Management of Highway design projects (PennDOT projects preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in the delivery of transportation projects and programs
  • Strong knowledge of PennDOT standards, procedures, and delivery practices

Responsibilities

  • Leading plan production for conventional design-bid-build and/or design-build Highway projects
  • Working with a team of engineers and planners to develop strategies and teaming arrangements to pursue projects
  • Mentoring project teams and junior staff
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to less experienced engineers
  • Reviewing the work of other professionals, including QA/QC of plans and specifications, mentoring, training and growing staff in the performance of job duties
  • Having a broad understanding of Highway design, including interstates and other limited access highways, state roadways, and local roads
  • Review project proposals and plans to determine scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and delivery approach
  • Prepare scopes of work and cost estimates for proposals
  • Present project information in both written and oral formats
  • Complete technical analyses, calculations, and design tasks as needed
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across transportation practices
  • Manage multiple projects – scope of work, schedules, and budgets
  • Organize files and project documentation
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
