About The Position

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Highway Engineer to join its Highway & Rail Team in Burlington, Norwell, or Boston, Massachusetts, or Providence, Rhode Island. The role provides technical leadership on significant, complex highway and rail transportation projects, helping deliver high-quality solutions that improve the safety, performance, and longevity of transportation infrastructure. The engineer will lead design and technical work, collaborate across disciplines, manage work plans and project constraints, and mentor developing engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• At least 10 years of progressive engineering experience.
• Highway or roadway design experience.
• MassDOT design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Expert knowledge of the relevant engineering discipline and the ability to apply best practices.
• Advanced proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation.
• Strong understanding of QA/QC procedures, business practices, and engineering laws.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Hydraulic design experience.
• Participation in professional engineering societies or organizations.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical execution of complex engineering designs, technical reports, and specifications for highway and rail projects.
• Provide expert consultation and resolve highly complex technical issues across multidisciplinary transportation projects.
• Lead advanced technical projects in collaboration with other engineering departments and project management staff to deliver sustainable solutions.
• Develop and manage discipline work plans aligned with project milestones, ensuring projects are completed within budget and schedule constraints.
• Guide and mentor junior engineering staff, including providing technical reviews and support.
• Contribute to the technical development of proposals and external presentations to clients, the public, and regulatory agencies.
