Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Approximately 10-15 years of hands-on experience as a highway engineer.
  • Solid experience working with PennDOT and/or PTC.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, Bentley software (OpenRoads), and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong familiarity with AASHTO design standards.
  • Ability to determine scopes of work, prepare estimates for highway tasks, and oversee quality control.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Pennsylvania PE license.
  • Experience with New Jersey, New York, or other authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead transportation design projects for key agencies, including PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC).
  • Perform roadway geometrics, 3D modeling, cross-section development, traffic control, signing, pavement markings, and right-of-way plans.
  • Collaborate with client management teams, engineers across different disciplines, and marketing teams.
  • Manage the design team to ensure high-quality work is delivered on time and within budget.
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Mentor and coach junior civil design staff.
  • Play an active role on Client Service Teams by driving proposal development, building client relationships, and participating in the industry to advance STV's growth and the individual's career.
