The Senior Health Professions Coach advises UT Austin pre-health professions students on academic prerequisites and non-academic components of their preparation for application to professional school. This role also annually updates course and non-academic requirements by working with admissions representatives and leads event coordination for the office, advancing our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.

Requirements

Master’s degree and four years of experience in academic advising, career services, or pre-health professions advising.
Demonstrated project management abilities, interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and excellence in oral and written communication.
Experience planning large-scale events.
Experience teaching or presenting in classroom settings.
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Must be able to occasionally travel, including overnight travel.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Must be eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Serve as UT point of contact with health professions program representatives to verify course requirements annually, and school specific information to support student success and coordinate HP program representative presentations for coaches during roundtable meetings.
Provide coaching individually and in groups to pre-health professions students as they progress toward and complete application to professional schools.
Use admissions data from Health Professions Schools to lead discussions with students.
Represent health professions programs and services in on-campus and off-campus organizations, meetings and conferences.
Work collaboratively with members of the “Career Ecosystem” (Career Faculty Fellows, Academic Advisors, Experiential Learning Advisors, Career Coaches, other pre-Health Professions Coaches, and administrative staff).
Serve as HPO liaison to tc3, student organizations and as the chapter advisor for AED. This will include evening events for student organizations.
Stay current on admissions requirements across these disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Optometry, Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Cardio Perfusion, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Anesthesiology Assistant, and Podiatry through research of in-state and out-of-state professional schools.
Plan and coordinate workshops, seminars, and skill building events around hp career topics for students in person and through livestream.
Prepare recorded versions of workshops and presentations.
Teach and present to internal and external groups ranging in size from 25 to over 500.
Develop, select, and utilize effective pre-Health Professions materials for students pursuing a health professions career.
Disseminate materials and information about professional school preparation and expectations to students, staff, and faculty as part of the “Career Ecosystem”.
Coordinate the HP Fair annually each spring with support from the CNS Events team.
Work with professional schools and all vendors involved with the fair.
Coordinate additional events as needed.
Teach spring seminar course, BIO 102C, for the Biology Scholars Program.
Serve as the HPO email triage lead.
Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects, transition needs, and staffing CNS events.
