About The Position

NV5/Dade Moeller is seeking a highly qualified Senior Health Physicist to provide technical consulting, radiation protection expertise, regulatory compliance support, and professional instruction to government, commercial, and nuclear industry clients. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in health physics, radiological controls, radiation safety, and regulatory compliance while delivering classroom, virtual, and field-based training programs to client personnel. We offer a wide array of consulting opportunities that include radiation safety program audits, application preparation for new radioactive material licenses, designing final status surveys for decommissioning and license amendments, conducting radiation surveys for surface contamination and external exposure rates, providing radiation safety support for clients affected by technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive materials (TENORM), and participating in other diverse consulting projects on behalf of our valued public and private sector clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Radiological Sciences, Engineering, or related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional health physics experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in radiation protection, dosimetry, instrumentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25–50% as required by project assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP) in good standing through the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP).
  • Experience supporting DOE, NNSA, NRC, DOD, EPA, or commercial nuclear clients.
  • Experience serving as a Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Experience with MARSSIM surveys, decommissioning projects, environmental monitoring, and radiological assessments.
  • Existing professional network within the radiation protection and nuclear industries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert health physics consultation to federal, commercial, academic, medical, and nuclear industry clients.
  • Evaluate radiological hazards and develop radiation protection strategies in accordance with ALARA principles.
  • Conduct radiological assessments, dose evaluations, shielding analyses, and exposure assessments.
  • Support client Radiation Protection Programs and Radiation Safety Programs.
  • Interpret and apply applicable regulations, including: 10 CFR 20, 10 CFR 835, NRC regulations, DOE requirements, EPA guidance, OSHA standards, DOT regulations.
  • Develop technical reports, procedures, safety analyses, and regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct radiological audits, assessments, and program reviews.
  • Provide technical support during radiological incidents, emergency response activities, and corrective action investigations.
  • Serve as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or provide RSO support when required.
  • Advise clients on dosimetry, instrumentation, contamination control, environmental monitoring, and radioactive material management. These responsibilities are commonly associated with senior CHP positions supporting radiation protection programs.
  • Deliver instructor-led and virtual training programs in our training programs.
  • Evaluate student performance.
  • Assist in maintaining technical accuracy and regulatory relevance of instructional materials.
