About The Position

Medtronic Surgical is hiring a Sr. Hardware Engineer to play a key role in the development and sustainment of capital equipment platforms, including electro surgical generator systems. This role involves designing hardware that improves and extends lives, working on complex medical devices where decisions directly impact patients, clinicians, and outcomes. The engineer will own problems end-to-end, get hands-on with hardware, and see their work integrated into real-world products. They will join a collaborative capital equipment engineering team working on advanced surgical energy platforms and emerging technologies, taking strong ownership of designs while working closely across a multi-board system architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical - Computer Engineering
  • 4 years related work experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
  • Unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment (for roles below Principal level)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with digital hardware design
  • Experience with PCB design tools such as Cadence OrCAD, Allegro, or Altium
  • Experience working in complex hardware systems or multi-board architectures
  • Familiarity with regulated product development environments (medical device, aerospace, automotive, etc.)
  • Experience with component libraries or E CAD library management
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines and cross functional teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in a lab environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, analysis, and troubleshooting of complex digital hardware and circuit boards
  • Drive board design projects through completion, verification, and integration
  • Conduct hardware research, design, development, and testing of electrical components and systems
  • Develop technical specifications and ensure hardware reliability and performance
  • Analyze hardware configurations and verify designs meet system and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including systems engineering, manufacturing, regulatory, and marketing
  • Provide hands-on lab support for prototypes, troubleshooting, and production hardware
  • Component library management, including building schematic symbols and PCB footprints
  • Maintaining and improving the electrical component library for E CAD tools
  • Ensuring component data integrity and standards compliance
  • Supporting efficient hardware development through library quality and reuse
