About The Position

General Motors is at the forefront of the transformation of automotive with the electrification of our portfolio and the development of leading-edge central compute and autonomous capabilities. Our Semiconductor Engineering team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on design and commercialization of leading-edge hardware enabling the future of GM’s vehicle architecture. We are seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to lead the hardware development of wired connectivity technology. This hardware engineer position will be dependent on building strong partnerships with both internal team members responsible for electronic control unit (ECU) design, as well as semiconductor partner(s). This role is on the Network Technology and Design team due to the growing need for hardware design ownership.

Requirements

  • Ethernet Experience; technical expertise to design, test, and implement high-speed, in-vehicle communication networks
  • Strong proficiency in circuit design, schematic creation, and PCB layout.
  • Experience in hardware design tools such as Mentor Graphics, Cadence, Xpedition and ORCAD.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multimeters Network Analyzers (Vector (VNAs) CAN, LIN)
  • 5+ total years of engineering experience at an OEM, OR at a semiconductor supplier, OR at a Tier 1 ECU supplier.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in electronic hardware design and development.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Computer Science
  • Working knowledge of automotive electronic hardware and automotive software architecture.
  • Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills; demonstrated ability for working across functional and organizational boundaries.
  • Exceptional demonstrated experience leading projects to completion.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proven ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the software, mechanical, and manufacturing spaces to ensure successful integration of network technologies electrical design.
  • Perform detailed hardware analysis, including worst-case analysis, signal integrity, and power integrity.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop requirements and test specifications.
  • Develop a clear test strategy, covering all aspects of development.
  • Lead bench test execution throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Establish domain expertise for semiconductors and electronic control unit product lines within scope of responsibility.
  • Manage technology roadmaps in close collaboration with industry leaders.
