Position Purpose: Rates and designs benefits for largest and most complex groups. Serves as primary contact to stop loss vendors. Logistics: Companion Life | Insurance Company | Based in Columbia, SC – one of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina’s subsidiary companies. Location: This is a fully remote position, and the typical work hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 5pm EST. There is some travel required with this position. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years job related work experience or Associate's and 2 years job related work experience
  • 5 Years underwriting experience.
  • Excellent organizational, customer service, oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Good judgment.
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficient spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Extensive knowledge of underwriting and risk principles and their application.
  • Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree-Accounting, Finance, Business or Healthcare Administration, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
  • Insurance course work in FLMI, HIAA, or BCA.
  • Knowledge of database software and computer systems support.
  • Prior experience working with David Young systems.

Responsibilities

  • Determines the acceptability of new group risk.
  • Generates proposals.
  • Completes pre-reviews on new groups and rate reviews on renewals.
  • May process and complete ERISA reporting.
  • Trains and advises less experienced underwriters.
  • Serves as a liaison to other departments concerning underwriting issues.
