About The Position

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week. This position in Sargent & Lundy’s Consulting group will require you to focus on our utility planning and advisory projects, such as the following: Transmission system planning and analysis, including studies in load flow, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients (EMT), to support a variety of clients such as ISO/RTO and electric utilities. Preparing new generator interconnection applications, including development of conceptual single line diagram, verification of compliance with reactive power requirements, and development of steady-state, dynamic, and short circuit models to support the applications. Reviewing ISO feasibility and system impact studies to provide guidance to our clients, who are ISO Interconnection Customers.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
A minimum of 6 years relevant power systems engineering experience with utility or consultant.
Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal and voltage constraints and to identify transfer capability limits.
Experience using transmission planning software for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, TARA.

Nice To Haves

Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping.
Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD.
Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE or ASPEN.
Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE.
Experience in Python, Java Script, or other scripting languages.
Interest in learning and effectively using emerging technologies where relevant to their role.
Experience with AI, automation, programming, or similar technologies is valued where relevant but is not required unless specifically identified elsewhere in the job description.
