About The Position

In this highly collaborative role as a Senior Grants Manager, you will oversee the full grants lifecycle—including funding research, proposal development, submission management, reporting, compliance, and stewardship—while helping align funding strategies with organizational priorities and growth objectives. Working closely with executive leadership, program teams, finance, and external funding partners, the Senior Grants Manager will help manage a portfolio of approximately $6M in foundation and government funding. This position offers the opportunity to contribute strategically, build strong cross-functional partnerships, and play a key role in advancing impactful programs within the community. The role partners directly with the CFO, CEO, Chief Program Officer, and Grants, Compliance, and Audit Manager to help ensure funding efforts remain organized, compliant, and positioned for long-term success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree preferred (e.g., MPA, MBA, Nonprofit Management).
  • 5+ years of experience in grant writing and management.
  • Strong history of obtaining and stewarding large-scale funding from diverse sources, including foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • A highly effective communicator, who excels in both writing and presenting, with the ability to engage and influence varied audiences.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities to effectively balance multiple priorities, manage concurrent funding initiatives, and consistently meet important deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Keen attention to detail, particularly in grant documentation and data management.
  • Brings strong analytical, relationship-building, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to turn data into compelling narratives, collaborate effectively across teams and leadership groups, and proactively identify opportunities that drive meaningful results.
  • Proficiency with grant management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Grants, Compliance, and Audit Manager through ongoing coaching, collaboration, and professional support.
  • Help streamline team priorities and project timelines using organizational project management tools that support efficiency and strong cross-functional coordination.
  • Provide thoughtful leadership and operational guidance while helping uphold organizational standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Foster an environment where team members are encouraged to grow professionally, take initiative, and contribute meaningfully through clear communication, shared goals, and continuous support.

  • Maintain and manage a strategic grants calendar to support well-coordinated, timely, and high-quality proposal submissions.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with prospective funders through proactive outreach, presentations, partnership engagement, and ongoing communication with foundations and corporate stakeholders.
  • Lead the preparation, writing, editing, and timely submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and all required supporting documentation.
  • Ensure all submissions fully comply with funder guidelines, deadlines, and internal quality standards.
  • Collaborate with relevant staff to collect and synthesize program data, outcome metrics, and compelling narratives to support funding requests.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the organization’s active grant portfolio, working closely with a direct report to help ensure grant activities remain organized, compliant, and aligned with funder expectations and key deadlines.
  • Support the development and submission of clear, accurate, and timely grant reports, budgets, and related financial documentation that help maintain strong funder relationships and support future funding opportunities.
  • Oversee the maintenance of organized and comprehensive grant records, including agreements, communications, and reporting documentation—to promote accountability, continuity, and effective grant management practices throughout the funding lifecycle.
  • Build and nurture meaningful partnerships with funders and key stakeholders through thoughtful, multi-channel engagement, including curated site visits that showcase the organization’s impact first-hand.
  • Act as the trusted lead point of contact for all funder engagement, confidently managing inquiries and orchestrating impactful, well-executed site visits that strengthen relationships.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Philanthropy to design and deliver compelling recognition initiatives that resonate with partners and elevate their connection to the mission.
  • Champion donor stewardship efforts by leading timely acknowledgments and delivering insightful, high-quality impact reports that clearly demonstrate the value of their contributions.
  • Strengthen the grant lifecycle process by introducing streamlined systems and best practices that improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in data tracking, reporting, and submissions.
  • Play a visible leadership role across the organization, contributing to strategic planning, financial discussions, and cross-functional initiatives that shape overall direction and impact.
  • Take ownership of departmental financial oversight, developing and managing budgets that ensure resources are used effectively and aligned with key organizational goals.
  • Monitor grant performance, KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), and program outcomes to ensure success and accountability.
  • Deliver data-driven insights that guide leadership decisions on programs and funding strategies.
  • Engages in other duties and initiatives that contribute to the achievement of organizational goals.
