About The Position

The Biller is responsible for billing insurance companies, workers’ compensation carriers, and HMO/PPO carriers. The role audits patient accounts to ensure procedures and charges are coded accurately, corrects billing errors, and identifies stop-loss claims, implants, and missing codes. It also involves following up on insurance balances to help ensure prompt payment, communicating with clients and staff by phone and in person, maintaining productivity standards and reports, and obtaining updated demographic and other information required for insurance billing. The Biller uses a computer to enter follow-up notes and retrieve collection and patient information and writes appeals to insurance companies. Sherman Oaks Hospital is a 153-bed, not-for-profit acute-care community hospital in Sherman Oaks, California, with more than 500 employees. It provides 24/7 emergency care and specialized medical, surgical, and diagnostic services. The hospital is part of the Prime Healthcare Foundation.

Requirements

Knowledge of multiple insurance billing requirements and 1–2 years of billing experience.
Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and Revenue Code structures.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
High school graduation or GED equivalent required.
