About The Position

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren, Michigan location three times per week, at minimum (or other frequency dictated by the business). The In-Vehicle Software Purchasing role is responsible for managing the sourcing, negotiation, and supplier relationships related to embedded and connected vehicle software. This position ensures that software solutions meet cost, quality, and timing requirements while aligning with the company’s technology roadmap and compliance standards. The role collaborates closely with engineering, legal, cybersecurity, and program management teams to support product development and lifecycle management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years relevant experience in purchasing (any internship or co-op experience will not be considered)
  • Ability to negotiate through complex and/or ambiguous situations, while working independently
  • Project management, managing multiple projects/assignments simultaneously, and prioritizing requests
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Ability to learn about items being purchased without having previous knowledge of the product
  • Analytical skills, including the ability to do in-depth benchmarking
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Knowledge of computer software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Research)
  • SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems
  • Analytical Thinking - Ability to effectively negotiate while considering various factors in decision making to determine solutions and their impacts. Use this to make sound recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate license models (or other technology models), competitive business cases, favorable and robust terms and conditions (including legal terms), and other items to complete a full contract package.
  • Use your proven competence in negotiation skills, to make recommendations to Stakeholders on terms and conditions deviations and when to uphold.
  • Stay up to date on the IT industry, Automotive industry, and strategic direction GM software and services is headed
  • Work effectively cross functionally, internally and externally, while building strong relationships
  • Partner with IT and Business on strategy of supply base, technologies, products used, future products, technology roadmap, and viable suppliers for technology requirements.
  • Work with Suppliers on governance and deliveries, including sound understanding of deadlines, required lead times, supplier contracts and application types.
  • Active and effective participation with key stakeholders, including Engineering, IT, Business Stakeholders, Legal, and Security, among others.
  • Develop and manage suppliers under the guidance of quality, service, technology, and price negotiations. This includes sound understanding of deadlines, required lead times, supplier contracts and application types.
  • Proactively manage annual renewal cadence and deadlines to support business continuity
  • Adhere to corporate purchasing and accounting policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain benchmark data to drive a strategy.
  • Resolve commercial issues with suppliers and assess supplier performance
  • Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • Utilize Global Purchasing and Supply Chain sourcing process to manage Sourcing packages.
