About The Position

Great American's Environmental Division offers an exclusive focus on environmental insurance solutions to a wide variety of commercial customers. Our core products and services enable businesses to effectively and efficiently manage risks that can threaten their financial security. The Environmental Division is looking for a Senior GL/Pollution Underwriter to join their team. The ideal candidate would be able to work a hybrid schedule out of one of the following offices: NYC or Exton PA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, 2 - 5 years of experience in Underwriting or a related field.
  • Performs work under general supervision and technical direction.
  • Familiar with moderately complex concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Works with authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of company policies and industry laws and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong negotiation and decision-making ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with digital marketing strategies and tools is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and underwrites combined General Liability and Site Pollution Liability new and renewal business in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Analyzes risk data to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.
  • Collaborates with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and clarify details.
  • Orders and evaluates additional reports and screens, such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, outside inspections, etc., to inform decisions.
  • Ensures proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.
  • Evaluates existing policies for potential renewal or modification.
  • Communicates underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
  • Stays updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
  • Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers, focusing on generating new business and retaining profitable business.
  • Interprets, explains, and promotes products and services to drive market growth.
  • Leverages advanced marketing techniques to interpret, explain, and promote the Company’s products to brokers and agents.
  • Monitors market trends and competition to identify opportunities for product enhancements and marketing strategies.
  • Organizes and participates in marketing initiatives, including presentations, industry events, and broker/agent meetings to showcase products and services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
