About The Position

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior GIT 2 to work with the Power Generation Business Sector on primarily Power Generation projects and when needed other regional projects. GAI Consultants, Inc. offers its employees, upon approval by supervisors, the ability to work remotely or in a hybrid setting. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and past work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded professional with the ability to grow in today's environment. The candidate will be based out of GAI's Louisville, KY office and will perform field work and design tasks under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer and/or professional geologist.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. Geology
  • 3+ Years of Experience
  • After passing state geology exam and obtained GIT
  • Possess basic oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering geology assignments involving subsurface investigations and geologic site characterization for a variety of facilities including, but not limited to: foundations for transmission lines, buildings, bridges, dams, retaining walls, and other structures.
  • Install geotechnical field instrumentation.
  • Select samples for laboratory testing.
  • Perform earthwork construction monitoring and foundation inspection.
  • Interpret specifications and construction drawings, evaluating site conditions based on construction excavations, monitoring and reporting on construction activities, and performing field testing of soils.
  • Perform site inspections at various power facilities and associated sites. Site inspections may be daily, weekly, monthly, or annual.
  • Perform site construction testing, including concrete and earthwork compaction.
  • Prepare boring logs and geologic cross sections.
  • Assist with proposals, budgets, schedules, specifications, and reports.
  • Assist with geotechnical engineering designs involving: rock/soil slope stability; cut slope and fill embankment design; shallow and deep foundation recommendations, and landslide remediation.
  • Complete with assistance or willing to learn basic civil site design tasks including: site grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, drainage plans, utility design and relocation, permit applications, construction drawings, specifications, and quality control plans, construction cost estimates.
  • Collect environmental samples (soil, sediment, groundwater, soil vapor, stormwater).
  • Log soil borings.
  • Install monitoring wells.
  • Perform site inspections.
  • Perform compliance monitoring during construction.
  • Write clear, concise field notes.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
