About The Position

New Porgera Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Land Access and Grievance team. This key technical role will focus on conducting geotechnical investigations, assessing land damage claims, and providing expert advice on stability and related issues. In this role, you will lead geotechnical investigations related to land damage claims and stability concerns along critical infrastructure including highways, transmission lines, resettlement areas, waste dumps, and other mine impacted zones. You will collect, analyse, and interpret geotechnical data; prepare detailed technical reports with clear recommendations. You will maintain all field investigation equipment and ensure supplies are stocked for ongoing programs. You will apply rigorous technical skills in geotechnical logging, mapping, laboratory testing, instrumentation, design, and analysis. You will work professionally, and with integrity when visiting impacted communities. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to support compliance with safety and environmental standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. You will maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health & Safety Policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science, preferably with a Civil, Mining or Geology major or related field
  • Minimum 10 years’ proven experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong track record in investigation, design, instrumentation, and reporting.
  • Experience working in large-scale mining operations or related civil/community projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality geotechnical reports.
  • Proficient with geotechnical software such as ROCSCIENCE Suite, Deswik, ESRI ArcGIS, GIS, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, able to meet deadlines and perform under pressure.
  • Valid Papua New Guinea Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work independently in remote and potentially difficult environments with high safety awareness.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
