Braun Intertec is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineer to join our Hibbing, MN office. The role involves preparing proposals, developing scopes of work, reviewing engineering work, performing engineering analysis, making geotechnical recommendations, and preparing engineering reports. The Senior Engineer will also manage client needs, define problems, collect data, and perform civil design calculations. Additionally, the role includes coordinating project assignments, reviewing drawings, identifying and resolving complex problems, managing project teams, overseeing and training technical staff, supervising and mentoring junior staff, compiling engineering calculations, preparing field reports, and working within established procedures and policies. Compliance with corporate practices, health and safety policies, and completion of safety training are also required.

Requirements

  • BS in civil or geotechnical engineering (MS in geotechnical engineering or structural engineering preferred).
  • 9+ years’ experience.
  • PE Certification.
  • Creative and innovative thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-department problems.
  • Ability to qualify professional opinions and recommendations of less experienced engineers; applying engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to delegate and develop direct reports.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
  • Ability to develop and progress multiple positive client relationships.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Must be action oriented, effectively/efficiently manage time and able to learn on the fly.
  • Valid driver’s license and pass MVR as required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals for moderate to complex projects.
  • Develop and execute whole scopes.
  • Review engineering work of others.
  • Perform engineering analysis using company and industry methodologies.
  • Make geotechnical recommendations and prepares engineering reports for senior review.
  • Understand and manage the need of clients through communications and proposal/project work.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Perform the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments, including but not limited to, familiarity with the programs, staff, and operating procedures of the company.
  • Perform civil design calculations (i.e. grading, drainage, paving, geometric design, utility design, etc.), sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignment.
  • Coordinate project assignments with other engineers and technicians within the discipline group.
  • Review drawings supplied by vendors, clients, and engineers and architects and recommends necessary changes.
  • Identify complex problems/possible solutions and take the appropriate action to resolve.
  • Capable of efficiently and effectively managing project teams including, engineering and field support personnel.
  • Oversee and train and/or teach Braun Intertec technical practices.
  • Supervise and/or mentor junior level staff.
  • Compile engineering calculations using standard formulas and computer software.
  • Prepare field reports documenting contractors work methods, test results, and the interpretation of these tests.
  • Work within established procedures and/or protocols.
  • Be aware of risks associated with recommendations.
  • Develop understanding of Braun Intertec services and has the ability to market to clients.
  • Understand and work in compliance with corporate practices, health and safety policies.
  • Complete safety training as required.
