About The Position

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Geospatial Analyst for their Tampa, FL, or Fairfax, VA offices. Remote positions may be considered based on experience. This role offers a significant career opportunity within a multidisciplinary consulting and engineering firm, emphasizing professional growth and the application of cutting-edge technology. The analyst will primarily work on GIS/IT and Remote Sensing projects for state and federal clients across the United States. Key responsibilities include script/macro development, training, production, quality control (QC), and process improvement (innovation) within the Product Line.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience working with the initial processing, analysis, and data classification of imagery and topographic/ bathymetric lidar projects.
  • An understanding of GIS and Lidar data and concepts, including a strong knowledge of various raster and vector data types, coordinate systems, projections, and datums.
  • Understanding of lidar production workflow and the ability to explain the conceptual basis of lidar acquisition, processing, and deliverable creation.
  • Understanding of elevation products.
  • In-depth knowledge of ESRI’s products including ArcGIS 10x, ArcPro.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, resolve problems quickly and efficiently, and collaborate openly.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance, documentation, and providing feedback.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under tight schedules as required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring and training junior geospatial staff.
  • US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with lidar mapping sensors.
  • Strong conceptual understanding of sources of error in airborne lidar datasets and visualizing translation and orientation errors.
  • Experience in airborne lidar trajectory processing (Applanix PosPac MMS, Novatel Inertial Explorer).
  • Experience in extracting lidar using sensor vendor specific processing suites (Riegl RiProcess, Optech LMS, Teledyne CARIS, GeoCue True View EVO, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of aerial acquisition, GPS ground survey, and calibration.
  • Formal Education in a Surveying/Geomatics/GIS or related field desired.
  • Ability to attend and speak at conferences, communicate with business partners for future opportunities.
  • Project Manager experience or certification.
  • Working experience with Terrasolid Products and MicroStation.
  • LASTools, LP360, Global Mapper, QGIS experience.
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or other programming languages.
  • GDAL Tools, and command line applications highly desirable.
  • ArcGIS Data Review and Production Editing experience.
  • NGA certifications, GISP Certification, ASPRS certifications in Lidar or other Remote Sensing technologies.
  • Experience as an Aerial Sensor Operator.
  • Current and valid security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support lidar sensor installations and boresight reviews.
  • Perform quality checks on data post acquisition and troubleshoot acquisition challenges.
  • Conduct airborne and/or mobile trajectory processing and QC.
  • Process and extract lidar data from raw formats.
  • Perform relative and absolute adjustments to lidar data (calibration/alignment/registration).
  • Perform QAQC on initially processed data to ensure it meets rigorous accuracy requirements.
  • Perform survey control lay-outs and QC of field surveyed control points.
  • Create a variety of digital mapping/remotely sensed products using various software platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Product Line Lead to assist in project execution, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Manage and handle production data, including planning and monitoring, assessing management needs, and working with IT and Operations to ensure adequate resources.
  • Ensure data management protocols are met, including the use of proper files and formats, file locations, storage, and backups.
  • Implement quality control steps and practices throughout processes to ensure deliverables meet client specifications.
  • Provide feedback and support for developing and/or updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
  • Work with production staff to support process improvements and collaborate with other Technology/Process Improvement teams to review best practices for product line enhancement, efficiency gains, and quality improvement.
  • Support improvements to the automation of the production and QC process by providing technical guidance and ideas.
  • Perform multi-sensor processing, manipulation, and production.
  • Analyze point clouds and various geospatial data layers derived from point cloud data.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access).
