About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to ensure the safety, reliability, and compliance of our autonomous robotic vehicles. This role is responsible for identifying hazards and risks using Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), defining safety requirements, and implementing safety measures across the entire product development lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to embed safety into design, development, verification, and validation processes, ensuring adherence to relevant safety standards and regulatory frameworks.

Requirements

  • 8–12 years of experience in functional safety engineering
  • Experience in one or more domains: Autonomous systems / robotics, Automotive, Mining / heavy equipment, Agricultural machinery
  • Hands-on experience with STPA is highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of functional safety standards and lifecycle processes
  • Expertise in risk assessment techniques (STPA, FMEA, FTA)
  • Understanding of Safety Integrity Levels (SIL/ASIL)

Nice To Haves

  • CFSE / CFSP / AFSP / Functional Safety Engineer certification or equivalent Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead functional safety activities across the product lifecycle, from concept through production and post-deployment.
  • Conduct hazard analysis and risk assessments using methodologies such as STPA, FMEA, and FTA.
  • Define and manage functional safety requirements, ensuring traceability and compliance.
  • Support development of safety concepts, architectures, and safety cases.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware teams to integrate safety into designs.
  • Drive implementation and verification of risk mitigation measures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or relevant domain-specific standards).
  • Prepare and present safety analyses, reports, and documentation for leadership, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead safety reviews, audits, and cross-functional discussions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and influence stakeholders on safety best practices.
