•$147,000 - $152,000

About The Position

Amplify is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to build software used by students and teachers in real classrooms. The role works across the stack, primarily with React and TypeScript on the front end and Node.js and AWS underneath, with a focus on reliability at scale and in schools with inconsistent connectivity. The engineer writes and reviews code and tests, owns software shipped to production, and helps other engineers improve. Amplify expects thoughtful, pragmatic use of AI alongside sound independent judgment. The role collaborates with product managers, designers, and education experts to translate complex requirements into useful software. Amplify is also considering candidates for the Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer level and will consider candidates for the level that best aligns with their experience, qualifications, and interview performance.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or an equivalent degree or training.
  • At least 5 years of professional full-stack software development experience.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles and modern engineering practices, with experience in complex systems and large codebases.
  • Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks, including React, to build production-grade user experiences.
  • Solid understanding of modern backend web technologies, including Node.js, and ability to reason about scalable, maintainable service design.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment through self-driven learning.
  • Genuine passion for education products and commitment to building tools that are more equitable and accessible for all learners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with modern data stores such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Mongo, and Snowflake.
  • Hands-on experience managing cloud-based infrastructure using tools such as Serverless, Datadog, Terraform, and Docker.
  • Proficiency in automated testing techniques using frameworks such as Jest and WebdriverIO.
  • Experience with Java.
  • Prior experience in education or ed-tech environments.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test, and ship software across the stack, primarily using React and TypeScript on the front end and Node.js and AWS underneath.
  • Own code shipped to production, including monitoring, debugging, and incident response.
  • Improve the codebase through attention to clarity, maintainability, pragmatic tradeoffs, and refactoring.
  • Help other engineers improve through code review, pairing, and mentorship.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully and pragmatically to improve productivity without replacing independent knowledge and judgment.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and education experts to turn complex requirements into software that works for users.
  • Raise technical concerns about requirements when appropriate and incorporate feedback from people with classroom experience.
