Senior Full Stack Engineer

OptixVancouver, BC
Hybrid

About The Position

Optix is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to contribute to the development of AI-powered features for their platform, transitioning from a rules-based system to a conversational, agentic workspace management system. The role involves working across both backend and frontend to implement AI capabilities for coworking and flex space operators. This position offers the chance to collaborate closely with the Technical Lead, Product, and Design teams, delivering features end-to-end with opportunities for increased technical design responsibility. It's a unique opportunity to enhance AI expertise through hands-on agentic work and mentorship from experienced AI leadership within a profitable SaaS company, leveraging strong full-stack skills to ship impactful features. This is a hybrid role for candidates based in Vancouver, BC, requiring 60% in the Gastown office and 40% remote work.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of full-stack engineering experience, with a track record of reliably delivering features end to end.
  • Strong backend fundamentals, including building and scaling APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) and a solid grasp of databases and data-flow patterns.
  • Experience building with LLM APIs, understanding their behavior, quirks, and failure modes.
  • Comfort in Python and familiarity with the LangChain ecosystem.
  • Understanding that AI features require different approaches to quality, testing, and UX compared to deterministic features.
  • Proficiency in using AI tools (e.g., Claude) fluently for acceleration and debugging.
  • Strong problem-solving and systems thinking skills related to integration patterns.
  • Comfort with Git, unit testing, CI, and the Linux command line.
  • A habit of writing maintainable, testable code in complex systems.
  • Ability to clearly articulate technical reasoning to both technical and non-technical teammates.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • PHP / Laravel, MySQL, and GraphQL
  • Vue.js, with comfort working in an established, maturing codebase rather than greenfield
  • Experience with hub-like systems that integrate many external services (e.g., payments, calendars, access control), rather than single-purpose apps
  • Hands-on experience with agentic / LLM application patterns: multi-step orchestration, tool use, prompt and context management
  • Experience evaluating and monitoring AI quality (evals, tracing, accuracy testing)
  • AWS (Bedrock, ECS), containerization, and CI/CD
  • Data engineering exposure (ETL, transformations, larger datasets)
  • Microservices and event-driven architectures
  • Prior B2B SaaS experience

Responsibilities

  • Deliver full-stack features across backend and frontend in a Jira-based Agile sprint, taking ownership of tickets and growing into broader technical-design decisions.
  • Build AI-powered features that deliver meaningful value to customers.
  • Develop integrations and full-stack experiences that bring AI capabilities into an intuitive UI, including data work as needed.
  • Design and evolve APIs for iOS and Android apps, ensuring backward compatibility.
  • Utilize Claude and other AI tools daily as accelerators and debuggers.
  • Partner with the Tech Lead on evaluation and monitoring to maintain high AI feature quality.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements of the platform and architecture.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product and Design, influencing technical direction for customer impact, and contributing to planning and estimation.
  • Enhance quality by growing test coverage, reviewing code, supporting QA and release-candidate readiness, and validating acceptance locally and on the QA environment.
  • Engage in deep-dive investigations and rare edge case discovery across a large client base.
  • Participate in sprint rituals.
