About The Position

As a Full-Stack AI Engineer in E.ON Drive Infrastructure’s newly established AI UNIT, a special unit built and run like a startup, you will build an internal platform that makes AI solutions accessible to colleagues across EDRI. You will work across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI integration, taking ownership from initial architecture through reliable production operation. The platform is intended to let colleagues build applications with AI coding tools while authentication, backend, security, and hosting are set up automatically. This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to the Head of AI Strategy.

EDRI is a pan-European charge point operator owned by the E.ON group. It builds, owns, and operates public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The company has more than 200 employees and operates over 9,000 public charging points across 11 European countries, with plans to install 1,000 additional high-power charging points per year with location partners.

Requirements

• Proven experience building and operating production web applications across frontend and infrastructure.
• Strong skills in TypeScript and React or similar frontend technologies.
• Backend development experience with Node.js and/or Python.
• Experience scaling and securing applications, including performance optimization, caching, load testing, and authentication.
• Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or machine learning models into applications.
• Experience with cloud platforms, containers, and CI/CD; Azure is used, while AWS or GCP experience is transferable.
• A strong ownership mindset and ability to work effectively without detailed specifications.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with streaming or real-time interfaces.
• Experience with single sign-on and identity platforms such as Microsoft Entra ID.
• Experience building internal platforms or developer tools.
• Experience building a product from scratch.

Responsibilities

• Build the internal AI platform from scratch and develop it into a central place for AI solutions.
• Design a modular architecture that enables new AI solutions to be integrated and launched quickly.
• Develop intuitive frontends, including conversational, generative, and streaming interfaces.
• Build backend services and APIs that integrate models and services developed by AI/ML Engineers.
• Implement authentication, role management, access controls, and secure system integrations using security-by-design principles.
• Ensure scalability and performance for hundreds of users and millions of requests through load testing, caching, and continuous optimization.
• Own the platform’s reliability, security, monitoring, latency, and cost in production.
• Evaluate emerging AI models, AI tooling, and agentic systems, and integrate solutions that add value.
• Develop a secure self-service environment with clear guardrails that enables colleagues to create their own AI-powered applications.
