The Release Engineer will be responsible for developing, automating, and maintaining the infrastructure for building, testing, packaging, and releasing Graphcore’s hardware validation software. This role, within the Systems Engineering organization, aims to enhance engineering productivity, software quality, and release reliability through effective automation, continuous integration, and maintainable development tooling.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing CI/CD systems, automation infrastructure, or software engineering tools.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and Bash for automation and tooling development.
  • Strong experience working with Linux systems.
  • Experience using CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Buildkite, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience automating software build, test, packaging, and release workflows.
  • Experience with Git, version-control workflows, and code-review practices.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex build, test, deployment, and infrastructure issues.
  • Strong software engineering practices, with an emphasis on maintainability, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Ability to evaluate technical options and select practical solutions with minimal guidance.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor technical information to different audiences.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multiple engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting hardware validation or embedded software development.
  • Experience managing Python packages and software dependencies.
  • Experience with Docker, containerized development environments, or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Familiarity with hardware laboratory automation environments.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with code-quality tools, static analysis, and security scanning.
  • Experience using artifact repositories and release-management systems.
  • Experience supporting engineering teams distributed across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting hardware validation and test framework development.
  • Develop automation to build, package, test, and release validation software across multiple engineering environments.
  • Create maintainable tools for framework deployment, configuration, and environment provisioning.
  • Improve developer productivity through reusable automation and streamlined development workflows.
  • Develop automated quality gates, including unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, static analysis, and code-quality checks.
  • Manage framework versioning, artifact publishing, dependency management, and release processes.
  • Build infrastructure that enables repeatable automated validation across local development, laboratory, and validation environments.
  • Automate framework installation, upgrades, and configuration management.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting for build health, regression status, release quality, and pipeline performance.
  • Partner with framework developers and other engineers to improve software maintainability, reliability, and deployment automation.
  • Investigate CI/CD failures, infrastructure issues, and release problems, identifying practical solutions and longer-term improvements.
  • Review automation and tooling changes produced by colleagues, providing constructive technical feedback.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members working with automation, build, and release workflows.
  • Contribute to larger engineering initiatives by coordinating defined areas of automation and release work.
  • Document automation workflows, release procedures, and operational practices clearly and accurately.
