Raytheon's Subsystem Engineering and Photonics group is actively seeking Senior FPGA Engineer to join our group in Columbia, MD. The Subsystem Engineering and Photonics Group is a hands-on, multi-disciplinary engineering team that works to design, develop, and fabricate the next generation of RF and photonic systems. The Senior FPGA Engineer will be responsible for supporting our design and testing efforts by working with the engineering team to develop and implement firmware solutions in prototype hardware demonstrations.

Requirements

  • Typically a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in at least 4 of the following categories: Digital Design and HDL coding targeting configurable logic devices.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience in delivering FPGA solutions to system level applications.
  • Experience in one or more brands (Altera, Lattice, Microchip, AMD) of FPGA devices and associated tools.
  • Experience with high-level synthesis tools like Cadence Stratus, Mathworks HDLCoder, or Altera DSPBuilder.
  • Experience with integration and debug of electronics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, etc.
  • Experience with FPGA timing constraints and timing closure.
  • Experience with Python or C programming.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering highly preferred.
  • Experience in digital signal processing.
  • Experience with Gigabit serial interfaces and multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs).
  • Experience with embedded processor and System on a Chip development for FPGA devices.
  • Familiarity with the Linux environment and commands.
  • FPGA design experience using a Linux-based development environment highly desired.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and hardware integration, including hardware testing Verification utilizing hardware platforms.
  • Experience working with RF or Photonic systems.
  • Self-motivated problem solver with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Self-directed – Able to complete tasks with minimum oversight.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and code FPGAs in high-level synthesis tools to enable demonstrations of RF or photonic hardware prototypes.
  • Collaborate in a multi-discipline team setting to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Perform hands-on integration and troubleshooting of solutions to ensure functionality.
  • Serve as a technical resource to the organization.
  • Perform and participate in internal and external technical reviews.
  • Independently drive projects and execute to program schedules and budget.
